CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Biochemistry deals a basic understanding of

the chemical compounds and their metabolic

processes occurring in the cells/organisms.

Clinical biochemistry includes applications

of biochemistry in the medicine also.

MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

On completion of the Clinical Biochemistry course, the student will be able to:

Evaluate the biochemical reason of the human cell.

Explain the maintenance of cellular life in the term of

energy production and biosynthetic ability.

Apply biochemical knowledge to solve the problems of

human health and disease.

Practice basic skills in applying laboratory techniques

encountered in hospital's biochemistry laboratories.

Understand the genetic basis of cells.

TBL TOPICS

There will be 3 TBL viz. Enzymes in clinical practice, metabolism of amino acids and purine/pyrimidine metabolism.

Students will be classified into 6 groups. Each group will be assigned one topic.

All of you have to collect related information and discuss with each other within the group.

Each group should prepare PPT and present it on the date of TBL presentation.

Every student will be evaluated individually and within the group.

All group should attend all the TBLs. (1 marks)

In this module your performance will

be assessed as follows:

Quiz 10 Marks

Mid-term 20 Marks

Open book exam 5 Marks

TBL 5 marks

Final Theory Exam 45 Marks

Practical 10 Marks

Oral Exam 5 Marks

Quiz: It will be written exam and include MCQs, true/false and matching. Practicals will not be included in the quizzes

Mid-term: It will include MCQs, true/false, matching and descriptive questions also.

Open-book: It will include only descriptive questions from the book chapter.

TBL: It will be evaluated through presentation of specific topic.

Final written exam: It will include different types of questions such as MCQs, matching,

true/false and descriptive (short answer). More questions will be from the lectures of post-mid-term exam.

Practical Exam: It will be in the laboratory that will include experiments.

Oral Exam: It will be viva voice exam. Every student will be evaluated by an examiner

panel. The questions will be asked from all practical courses.

STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY Much of the subject matter is interrelated, so

failure to attend one lecture may impact learning in multiple areas.

So, class attendance are extremely important to your learning.

Minor learning difficulties become major problems if not treated at once.

So, contact your teacher immediately to solve any problem.

You can also communicate by email with any one of the faculty member.

Please bring your own pencil, rubber etc for all the exams. The module member or invigilators are not responsible for the same.

If there is anything that the module coordinator and/or co-coordinator can do to assist you during the course, please feel free to contact him/her.
