These are three street names used when talking about the drug peyote.

Peyote’s Street Names

Mescaline: a hallucinogenic substance found within the Peyote cactus.

Mescaline can be taken from the Peyote cactus or created synthetically.

Peyote is also a schedule 1 controlled substance.

Peyote’s Chemical Name

Peyote is a small, spineless cactus.

From earliest recorded time, peyote has been used by natives in northern Mexico and the south-western United States as a part of their religious rites.

What is Peyote?

Peyote has been used for over 5000 years. It was used by the indigenous people and Native

Americans. The use of peyote was not know until about 2000

years ago when Native American groups started using Peyote for religious reason.

Peyote was used as a way for the Native Americans to communicate with God.

There are now religions called the Peyote Religion.

There are also religious cults that use the drug Peyote when praying.

History Of Peyote

A religion or cult where peyote is take to talk to god.

Peyote used by Native American Church members is legal.

Those with Native American blood are allowed to consume and cultivate Peyote in all 50 states while non-native Peyote use is only protected in five states : Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Oregon. Native Americans have subsequently been allowed to answer "no" on armed forces application question.

Peyote Religion

When taking Peyote there are going to be certain effects which will be enhanced depending on the amount of Peyote is consumed or the toxicity of the peyote that is done.

These effects have been described as dreamy, drifting, and a delirious type of state for the first couple of hours.

Effects of Peyote

The sensation is similar to LSD but less edgy. While both auditory and visual hallucinations occur, many users say that a peyote high is more suitable for inner reflection and contemplation.

Much depends on the potency of the peyote and the blend of mescaline and the fifty or some odd alkaloids contained in cactus.

Effects of Peyote Continued

Rise in heart beat, rise in blood pressure and rise in body temperature

Numbness, insomnia, tremors, weakness and loss of appetite.

Also when swallowing Peyote you may become nauseas, having feelings to vomit and feel sick.

Physiological Effects of Peyote

Due to changing effectiveness of peyote, the environment, frame of mind, expectations of the user and the quantity taken have a lot to do with the effects of the drug.

The effects will vary each time the user uses peyote.

Some times, the users go through pleasant feelings while some other times they may feel scared of losing control, death or anxiety and other scary thoughts.

Psychological effects of Peyote

There are also some people who go through flashbacks or HPPD (hallucinogen persisting perception disorder) where the users hallucinate even after a long time after ingesting peyote.

What causes these effects is not yet identified. These effects take place in some users after one experience with peyote.
