ABSTRACT
In recent years, due to the large increase in demand for mobile bandwidth, China,
India, Japan, USA, and many European countries have actively constructed broadband
networks to enhance national competitiveness and promoted the growth of the networking
industry. According to the Computing Information Service Center, the wireless
communication industry is worth 91.5 billion NTD, annual growth rate of 12.5%. By
researching and analyzing the business development and market structure of wireless
networking, this article aims to provide suggestions to the Taiwanese government and
industry.
The objectives of this study are explored wireless networking industry management
development and market concentration in Taiwan, the theory ofStructure-Conduct
-Performance (S-C-P) that developed by Mason-Bain is used to analyze the market
structure, manufacturers’ behavior and operation performance. (1) The study used
Tow-Firm Concentration Ratio (CR2) and Herfindahl- Hirschman Index (HHI) as the index
to measure the concentration of the market. (2) The models of SWOT, 4P and Five Force
analysis are used for investigating the organization is havior and the strategy. (3) The
performance evaluation index is used for evaluating the performance of wireless
networking industry by the financial point of view. (4)Finally, we use case study and
experts visiting to find out the operation guide, competitiveness and future planning for
these companies.
The results showed: (1)The market structure of wireless networking industry in
Taiwan from 2008 to 2012 tends to be highly concentrated. (2)That from the firm conduct,
Taiwan wireless networking industry value chain intact, midstream part of the system
manufacturer specializes in cost control and production capacity, and the ability to
integrate diversified products and technologies, improve operational performance and
competitiveness.(3)Based on the four indicators of operating performance valuation,
Arcadyan has a stable position in the wireless networking industry; on average,Gemtek is
the market share leader of the wireless networking industry, because of its effectiveness
scale of operation and management capability. However, due to mastering technology
development and new product time to market, Arcadyan and SERCOMM have growing
profitability. Therefore, the performance indicators show that the two companies have
performance. (4)Case company has excellent soft, tough, and hard ware integration, so its
R & D capability is fundamental to the company. By changing the market layout from
iii
retail market to higher margin telecom market, the case company’s revenue can be
expected to grow relatively.
