Warm greetings from Sekolah Buin Batu!
At the heart of the IB is the “learner profile”, a
long term, holistic vision of education that underpins all
three programmes and puts the student at the centre of
everything we do. The learner profile is the IB mission
statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for
the 21st century. The ten aspirational qualities of the
learner profile inspire and motivate the work of
teachers, students and schools, providing a statement of
the aims and values of the IB and a definition of what
we mean by “international mindedness”.
The learner profile unites us all with a common focus: on the whole
person, as a lifelong learner. It applies to us all – student, teacher, parent
or administrator – for we are all continually learning. ‘Reflective’ is one of
the learner profiles in which we thoughtfully consider the world and our
own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and
weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development."
At Sekolah Buin Batu, various learning strategies and programs are used
to develop our learners to be reflective. One of those is through a reflection
night. This year’s reflection night was conducted yesterday for Year 9
students, parents, teachers and school staff. This reflection night was led by
our religion teachers and homeroom teachers. Special thanks to all involved
for making this night a reflective and meaningful one.

Welcome to Kindy B Centre page!
K indy B students were very enthusiastic to start the term by sharing their holiday
experiences. They drew and wrote a story in English lesson. In UOI they shared some
photos about the transportation they used during the holiday. This is related with the unit ‘How
we organize ourselves’. They learnt about how communities use transportation to meet their
needs. They mentioned the names of the vehicles and explained why they used certain types of
transportation. In this unit they inquired about the impact of transportation to the environment
and what we can do to solve that problem. At the end of the unit, they worked in a group to
create a town with the transportation needed in the town. They learnt to cooperate and
demonstrated creativity. They have done a great job!

School Reminder Kayu Besi Campus Principal’s Message
Final Assessments in SBB
Kristyanto S. Boko
The Government has set 8 educational standards for all schools in
Indonesia (Educational Standards Decree 19, 2005). These are: content,
process, graduate competency, teacher and education personnel, facilities
and infrastructure, management, budgeting, and education evaluation
standard. As an SPK (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama) school, Sekolah
Buin Batu (SBB) developed SBB Educational Standards which meet the
requirements established by the government, as well as those required by the International
Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and Cambridge International Examinations in order to
implement their programmes at SBB.
To fulfill the ‘education evaluation’ standard, SBB is obligated to conduct National Exams
(UN), for both Year 6 and Year 9. In primary level, the assessment is called ‘Nationally
Standardized School Exam’ (USBN) and is mandatory. Both Year 6 USBN and Year 9 National
Exam are organized by the educational office. Year 9 UN is especially important as it determines
which school SBB students can enroll in.
SBB also conducts Cambridge Examinations known as ‘Checkpoint’ in Year 9. Achieving a
minimum score of two ‘Silver’ bands in the Progressions Tests is a requirement set by SBB in
order to be eligible to take the final Checkpoint Exam in October.
Year 6 PYP students are also required to do the PYP Exhibition to show their learning
throughout the programme. The PYP Exhibition and USBN are important assessment tools and
both are of equal importance.
To support Year 6, School Leaders have:
1. organized practical and written school exams to take place before term break to allow
students to focus on three national exam subjects (Math, Science and Bahasa Indonesia) in
May
2. moved the date of the PYP Exhibition to after the National Exam
3. scheduled research required for the PYP exhibition to take place mainly in English classes
4. provided additional counselling for students to manage their stress levels, if needed.
Next academic year, the PYP Exhibition will take place in Semester 1, and the USBN
exam will take place in Semester 2.
Let’s pray for Year 9 students facing their national exam on 2 – 8 May 2017 and Year 6
facing Year 6 USBN on 15 – 17 May and PYP Exhibition on .. May 2017. Collaboration between
school, home and community will ensure each student achieves their best.
