GMES – supporting reporting & management tasksGMES – supporting reporting & management tasks
AgricultureAgriculture – intensification leads to water stress, soil erosion and biodiversity decline
Soil ErosionSoil Erosion – 17% of total European land area affected, economic loss around 85 € per ha
BiodiversityBiodiversity – 335 species highlyendangered in Europe
WaterWater – 20% of all surface watersources seriously threatened by pollution
Urban SettlementsUrban Settlements and transport networksand transport networks growing - leads to soil sealing and fragmentation of landscape

2geoland2geolandGMES Land Services
GMES Land Services provide land related, cross-boarder harmonized geo-information to support reporting obligationsat global down to local scales
Fields of application addressed by GMES Land Services: water quality forest management spatial planning agri-environmental issues the carbon cycle food security

2geoland2geolandgeoland2 Objectives
geoland2 is last brick towards implementationof fully mature GMES Land Services by:
organization of qualified production network implementation, validation and demonstration
of operational processing lines implementation of user driven product quality assurance process
Project dimensions: 50 service providing partners from 20 European countries 80 international user organisations total budget: 32 M€ life time: 4 year

Core Mapping Services - CMS Basic, generic geo-information on:
land cover / use incl. seasonal and annual change biophysical parameters describing continental vegetation stage,
surface radiation budget and water cycle local to global scales update frequency: 1 day to 12 months
Core Information Services - CIS Specific information addressing reporting obligation:
spatial planning: describe / predict urban land use change in Europe water quality: estimation of pollution sources agri-environment: assessing impact of agriculture on environment forest management: improved forest class and biodiversity indicator information land carbon: asses impact of weather and climate variability
on terrestrial biospheric carbon fluxes natural resource monitoring in Africa: environmental monitoring capacity
over African countries global crop monitoring: real-time assessment and yield forecasts
