First Rehearsal New Members Welcome! Thursday, September 13

5:45 until 6:45

This year rehearsals are going to be on Thursdays starting at 5:45 till 6:45.

My Brothers and Sisters, Unless you are asleep at the wheel, you must have heard

about the scandals involving the Church hierarchy all the way up to the Pope. Accusations are flying, bishops are fleeing and a car-dinal has lost his red hat.

It began with priests accused of child molestation and the cover-ups, and then accusations of a gay sub-culture in the pres-byterate. Sadly, I can say is it is true but certainly not universal. Most priests, including those with homosexual feelings, are strug-gling to live a life of virtue like us all. This is what Pope Francis was referring when he said, “If someone is [homosexual] and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” But there is a small number of clergy who practice alternate life-styles... This is a great blemish on the Church and it must be erad-icated, but it is apparent that the hierarchy cannot do it. The laity must come forward especially with prayer and demands for jus-tice. Remember with power comes corruption; no wonder when Our Lord became man, he entered this life poor to shame the pow-erful.

I dare to say that what we have heard is only the tip of the problem. I believe that it will get worse before it gets better. This is necessary however so that the Church can be purged and purified and once again be the light of the world. It is by the Holy Spirit that this is being done and it is by the Holy Spirit that we are assured of the holiness of the Church, though her members, in-cluding the clergy, are sinners. We must be comfortable with this latter fact but not complacent. Those who do not repent are asking for condemnation. Those who do repent must do penance and beg their victims’ mercy, and those who are innocent of these crimes must pray. Someone asked me what she should do. I said quite clearly to keep on doing what she is doing: Pray, go to Mass, do penance, love your neighbor, and if the Holy Spirit calls her to speak then He will give her the words to speak.

We must pray for the victims of molestation and abuse: for their healing and their forgiveness.

We must pray for the perpetrators: for their repentance and conversion.

We must pray for our leaders: for the strength to lead, proclaim the Gospel and call on their peers to be holy, undefiled and beyond reproach and take responsibility for their inaction and as well as their transgressions. I assure you that the Church will prevail as she has done through many scandals throughout her long history for our Lord himself said, “The gates of hell shall never prevail against her.” Keep the faith and fight for what you believe.

Making Those Funeral Arrangements Planning or even thinking about one’s own funeral is un-pleasant and therefore something we tend to push far out of our minds. When the time finally comes it leaves the family stressed and overwhelmed by all the decisions they must make. You can relieve some of this stress for your loved ones by planning your Funeral Liturgy (Mass of Christian Burial). Lynn Berhalter would like to assist you in choosing the Scrip-tures to be read at your funeral Mass according to the archdi-ocesan guidelines. She can also help you choose the hymns that will add to the solemnity of your Mass. This is simple to do and it helps fulfill your wishes and eases your family’s bur-den. Make an appointment to see Lynn at the rectory to get started. Your plans will be kept on file at Holy Trinity Church and may be amended anytime you wish. Planning ahead ensures your family that the readings and music you desired are carried out and they need not worry. It is a beautiful final gesture, a gift to those who grieve. Call 201-343-5170 now and make your appointment.
