To Pahquioque, the unknown brave,
About whose name some critics rave,
We dedicate this fond endeavor
And hope it lives in jest forever.
We thought they'd buried all of you
And left no part to lie askew,
To our misfortune we have found
You've left your name to which we're bound .
Ah! revered name of Pahquioque
In dear dead days once did evoke
Thoughts of a warrior with piercing eye
Gazing inscrutably toward the sky.
Now we have made you on the whole
As a lampoon, both dry and droll.
We trust we haven't disturbed your peace
That your affection shall not cease
Perhaps you enjoy a laugh or two
Just as the Class of '60 do!

Of Democracy I sing, and education
Which is to bring . .. Utopia .
Of all men equal, I am afraid.

Let me be no more made

With a hammer and no "permissiveness,"
Lest the smith lose his manliness
With one good kick .

Must I be an acrobat to be a teacher?
After all, one needn't be a wolf to be a lecher .
What do I accomplish doing somersaults?
Isn't it enough to look for those faults
In language arts, arithmetic and diction,
Rather than in badminton and tennis friction?
Volleyball, wrestling, twinkletoes I don't perceive.
It's one big world of make believe.
The Hundred Great Books in all their romance
Have been forsaken for tumbling and dance.
Why, rather, do I continue doing handstands
And playing soccer to empty grandstands?
I much prefer this Ezra Pound,
Than to be made captain of raucous sound
Dull thumping volleyballs
Basketballs
Pingpong balls
Soccer balls
Baseballs, of balls, balls, balls, balls,
Balls, balls, balls.

To thee Alma Mater, we pledge fidelity,
Among your possessions, our hearts shall ever be.
Give voice to our chorus, spread praise throughout the land,
That we are all brothers, let everyone understand .
As years mme between us, our sons shall hear this cry,
Though death take the singer, our song shall never die.
Give voice to ou r chorus, spread praise throughout the land.
That we are all brothers, let everyone understand .
