Thank you for your support. Father Mecca
Please remember St. Peter Parish when preparing
your will. A legacy to the church eases your tax bur-
den and helps continue the good works of our parish.
Last Saturday, Bishop Caggiano con-
ferred the Saint Augustine medal upon men
and women from every parish, school, and Catholic Chari-
ties who have shown exemplary dedication to the Church
and to Our Lord as demonstrated by their extraordinary ser-
vice. This year, our honoree is John Gogliettino. Regulars
at the 12 noon Mass on Sundays know John and heard his
story last Sunday. I asked John to wear his medal to Mass
and warned him that I would be asking him to leave his post
in the vestibule and come to the front of the church so that
we could recognize him. John was 17 years old when on a
September Sunday at the noon Mass the ushers were short a
man at the time of the collection. They asked the teenager
if he would help pass the basket. He agreed. Fifty years
later, John is still passing the basket at the noon Mass! I
find that extraordinary. John is extremely dedicated and
responsible. He always notifies us in the office and the
other gentleman who usher in advance if he has to miss a
Sunday. When John told me one day during the summer
that September would be his 50th anniversary, I was
stunned, and I knew that he had to be this year’s recipient.
We congratulate John and thank him for his service to the
parish!
During his homily, Bishop Caggiano spoke about
the heart. I wanted to remember a few lines of his talk to
reprint here, but, naturally, I could not. But, I can use my
own words. Our volunteers give their time and do all that
they do out of love. All of them, whether they have been
serving a few years or 50 years, have wonderful hearts.
They love our Lord, Jesus, and they love the Church where
Jesus is present. They also possess great love for this parish
and want it to be a thriving sign of the living Lord. To
honor all our volunteers, we are having a reception for them
next Sunday afternoon at the rectory. I have tried different
times of the year for the reception and had thought the
spring would work best, but I have since realized that peo-
ple are very booked in the spring. I alighted last year on the
idea of November, a month when we give thanks, for this
reception of thanksgiving. I like the association, and I hope
we can make it a tradition. In addition to the reception, the
intention of the noon Mass is for our gracious volunteers.
The Saint Peter School Christmas Gift Wrap Shop
opens today in our vestibule. (Another shop is set up in the
school). Please stop and visit the Gift Wrap Shop this
month for your Christmas wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue,
and tags. Why buy elsewhere when the school is offering
papers and bags of excellent quality by Charleston Wrap?
Most of the rolls are reversible so we can get two designs
per roll. And when you buy from the school Christmas
Shop, you know that the dollars are going to support aca-
demic enrichment, physical education and counseling ser-
vices for our students which tuition alone cannot cover.
While we are on the subject of Christmas, the St.
Peter Home-School Association will offer wreaths this year.
The order forms will be ready for next weekend.

ing this weekend! Make under the tree merrier
with high quality and attractive wrapping paper
and gift bags!
As you may recall, the theme this year at St. Peter School is
"Change the World With Kindness." This week we dis-
cussed how we can change the world with kindness. Here is
one idea that a student came up with: "Another way to
change the world with kindness is by praying. Praying helps
change the world with kindness because prayer is always an
answer to a problem you have. Praying is like medicine that
will help you survive some type of disease or sickness.
When you are done praying, you feel better and forgiven."
Annual Clothing Drive
October 21—November 17
You can drop off all bagged clothes, stuffed ani- mals, small toys, shoes, bedding, etc., to the
School Office Between 9 am—3 pm Monday thru Friday
We will be collecting in front of the school on Sunday, November 17, 9 am—1 pm.
In return, we receive $.20 per pound of donated items. It doesn’t
sound like much but it adds up.
Thank you for your support!
From the Military Archdiocese:
Next weekend a special collection will be taken up for
the Archdiocese Military Services, USA. This collection is
taken up every three years throughout the United States.
Unlike a traditional diocese, the AMS has no geographical
boundaries, no parishes or parish registries, and receives
no financial support from the U.S. Military or the U.S. Gov-
ernment. The AMS relies solely on private donationos for
an operating budget of more than $8.2 million.
The generosity of parishioners will empower the minis-
tries of the AMS to spread the light of Christ to service
members, veterans, and their families who hail from all 50
states and U.S. territories and all U.S. dioceses.
A second collection will be taken up for your donations.
The annual Mass attendance census was completed
last weekend. I had thought that I would provide you with
the numbers this week, but I don’t have the space. I will
have to make the results part of next week’s column.
