Background information

● Topic: Misconceptions about hunger

● According to the World Food Program (2015) hunger is the lack of food causing pain and starvation.

● When you go through hunger one of the main body parts affected by it is your brain. The part of your brain that is effected is called your hypothalamus which helps regulate your balance. Livestrong.com (Chris Sherwood, Aug.16, 2013)

Need for the study part 1

My project is different from others because all the other people who do projects on hunger study their be cause and effect and I am focusing on the misconceptions on hunger.

Need for the Study Part 11

Independent variable: The people who receive the surveys.

Controlled variable: The questions in the survey.

Dependent variable: The misconceptions that people have about hunger in WA.

My project is important because I need people to notice that hunger is a big problem in WA and it needs to be noticed. According to http://www.feedingamerica.org/hunger-in-america/impact-of-hunger/hunger-and-poverty/hunger-and-poverty-fact-sheet.html we are the 28th state with the worst hunger rate.

Does a person's experience of hunger impact how much they know about hunger in WA? What misconceptions do people have about hunger in WA?

My hypothesis is; I think the people who have had to use food stamps or go to a food bank will be more aware of the problems with hunger in WA than the people who have not gone through the troubles of hunger are less aware, because the people who have had to go to a food bank or use food stamps are experienced with the what hunger really is.

Driving Question and Hypothesis

Analysis and Conclusion

My hypothesis was incorrect, because I thought that the people who had experienced hunger would know more about the problems with hunger in WA, but The people who did not go through hunger had close to the same results. The data on my graph clearly shows this.

Evaluation and

Future Implications

Some advice I would give to a scientist who wanted to redo my experiment is do not procrastinate. I think my experiment could have been improved by having deeper questions in my survey. If a professional was to study my topic also I would expect it to be deep and worked on for quite a while.
