Model for low to no cost Textbook development with UPNG

• Solicit Proposals (mailing, conferencing): UPNG issues a call for textbook manuscript.

• Submissions/proposals in academic journals and through hard copy mailings. UPNG then reviews and selects the highest quality proposal , both in terms of authorship and content. Proposals include 3 units/chapters, outline of entire textbook, audience, and competitors.

• Profit & Loss Analysis: UPNG determines if there is adequate demand for the textbook.

• UPNG develops Contract or MOA with author: Includes milestones, deadlines.• UPNG contracts with the author(s), setting deadline for submitting completed

author generated materials.• Editorial Review: UPNG edits the manuscript content in order to prepare it for

publication, comprehensively considering all writing elements and requesting substance/content revisions from the author when necessary. Includes instructional design components (outlines, questions, etc.); This process can begin as content is received, if the submissions are stepped.

• Peer Review (External, Blind): UPNG submits the manuscript to at least two scholars in the textbook's field/discipline for them to give it a blind (objective) review, thus ensuring it makes a real contribution to its field.

• Copyediting: UPNG improves the formatting, style, and accuracy of the manuscript, preparing it for publication.

• Production & Design: UPNG visually synthesizes and formats the manuscript's style and content into a coherent whole.

• Indexing: UPNG analyzes the text and identifies in it significant concepts and ideas, organizing them alphabetically and through locatable markers/headings so that readers can find them efficiently.

• Proofing: UPNG detects and corrects any errors in the print-ready galley proof and pdf of the text.

• Conversion: Programming to convert document to different formats (ePub, etc.).

• ISBN: the international standard book number uniquely identifies the textbook to allow for more efficient marketing.

• Distribution: upload to usg pcs and online repositories; print copies through bookstore, UPNG website, Amazon.com

• Creation of Ancillaries.• Post publication review.
