Уже відійшло у спогади спекотне літо, а разом із ним й безтурбот-ний настрій приємних поїздок, пригод, вражень, нових знайомств... А попереду — навчальний рік — найважливіший й найвідповідаль-ніший у вашому житті. Адже це рік прощання з дитинством, рік хви-лювань і палких пристрастей, пов’язаних зі шкільними випускними екзаменами й зовнішнім незалежним тестуванням.

Головна мета творчого колективу журналу «ТІМО-абітурієнт. Англійська мова» — створити найбільш комфортні умови для ґрун-товної всебічної підготовки до зовнішнього незалежного оцінюван-ня та державної підсумкової атестації 2012 року. Саме у нашому журналі ви знайдете усі необхідні матеріали для успішного подо-лання перешкод на шляху до отримання атестата зрілості та вступу до обраного виша.

У першому номері публікується тематична програма 15 випус-ків журналу, що крок за кроком поведуть тебе до успіху. Як і усі наступні, він містить дві частини «Навчання іншомовного матері-алу» (розділи «Граматика», «Лексика») та «Навчання іншомовного спілкування» («Читання» і «Письмо»). На початку кожного розділу на вас чекає вхідний тест у форматі ЗНО, що дозволить перевірити знання відповідної граматичної, лексичної теми або навички читан-ня, письма. Якщо результат буде не дуже втішним, не засмучуйте-ся! Опрацюйте завдання з відповідної теми й перевірте себе знову, склавши контрольний тест.

Цьогоріч у розділі «Граматика» ми вводимо новий підрозділ «26 форм англійського дієслова». Як ви вже зрозуміли на власному досвіді, дієслово становить кістяк граматичної системи англійської мови, тому ця тема поділена на фрагменти, які послідовно пода-ються у кожному номері журналу. Граматичний матеріал лаконічно систематизовано в таблицях, він закріплюється під час виконання оригінальних вправ.

Важливою практичною допомогою вам будуть рубрики «Трену-вальний тест у форматі ЗНО-2012» та «Контрольна робота у форматі ДПА». До кожного тренувального тесту у наступному номері нада-ються відповіді та коментарі.

Спробувати свої сили у знанні предмета можна, склавши тест ЗНО з англійської мови 2011 року. Постарайтеся виконати його за-вдання якомога краще. А в журнал № 2 ми не просто надамо ключі для самоперевірки, а й детально роз’яснимо правильні відповіді.

На прохання наших читачів-учителів ми запроваджуємо рубри-ку, адресовану саме їм, де будуть поради й рекомендації (наприклад, як мотивувати учнів, яким складно оволодіти англійською), а також матеріали, що допоможуть прикрасити урок (приміром, сценарії ко-ротких рольових ігор).

ропейської. Такі кроки дозволять

вже найближчим часом об’єднати

освітній простір, що має безпере-

чні переваги і для розвитку краї-

ни, і для кожного з нас.

• 22—23 вересня 2011 р. у Києві

відбувся Форум міністрів осві-

ти європейських країн «Школа

XXI століття: Київські ініціативи».

Міністр освіти України Д. Табач-

ник назвав сім напрямів євроінте-

грації середньої освіти і проекти

практичних дій по кожному з них.

«Перший напрям. Найвища осві-

та – це дошкільна освіта. Другим

напрямом є історія. Наша спіль-

на історія дає можливість і надію

збудувати Європу без розділових

ліній. Саме так і називається про-

ект 3-В Ради Європи: «Спільна іс-

торія без розділових ліній». Третій

напрям – толерантність – нова іде-

ологія європейської молоді. Чет-

вертим напрямом визначено мовне

питання, п’ятим – інформаційно-

ко мунікативні технології, шос-

тим – розвиток міжнародних

парт нер ських зв’язків навчальних

закладів, сьомим – підготовка вчи-

телів. Учасники Форуму багато

чого встигли зробити, разом підго-

тували дуже важливий документ –

Київське комюніке.

5 Tips for Backpacking

This may seem fundamental to most but I, like many others, set off on my fi rst backpacking Europe trip with just a one way ticket. When the money ran out sooner than expected it was a major hassle getting back home. Make sure you have a (preferably open dated) return ticket with you.

2_________________________

Do some research and have an outline of your backpacking trip and possible places to stay (hostels are the best for meeting up with other backpackers and like-minded travellers) but aim to go with the fl ow and don’t pre plan your trip too much. Don’t try to pack in too many places. Backpacking Europe does not mean you have to visit every European capital in four weeks, or even four months. Relax, taste and feel the different culture, get to know the locals and immerse yourself a little.

Backpacking is hard work! Whatever you take with you on your backpacking trip will be carried on your back for the duration. Obvious? Yes but it’s amazing how heavy that backpack can become after you’ve lugged it on and off buses and trains numerous times. Travel light. Really really light. Wear a pair of comfy shoes and pack one more pair. One jacket, a couple of jumpers and t shirts, an extra pair of jeans, shorts. swimwear, towel. You shouldn’t need much else.

You’ll meet lots of new people, other backpackers, travellers, locals, and you’ll most likely end up chatting easily to strangers. Most of them will be good people, but not all of them. Girls should be particularly vigilant. Stay in touch with family. If immediate strangers ask, always tell them that your family or friends at home know exactly where you are, i.e which city you are in and the address where you are staying.

This from a female backpacker (me again!) who hitched thousands of miles in the 80’s across France, Italy and Greece. Yes there are plenty of wierdos out there. You may feel there is safety in numbers but that’s not always so. Catch the bus or the train, really it’s worth it!

Навички читання з метою загального розуміння прочитаного перевіряються за допомогою завдання на встановлення відповідності (Matching). Це завдання належить до категорії легких. Воно містить п’ять коротких текстів/абзаців одного тексту (50—80 слів), об’єднаних спільною темою, та вісім заголовків/запитань до них, три з яких є зайвими. Кожен текст репрезентує певну ідею. Для виконання завдання (підбору заголовку або співвіднесення запитання з текстом, у якому міститься відповідь на нього) необхідно зрозуміти основну ідею кожного тексту.

Для успішного виконання завдання дотримуйтеся таких рекомендацій:• прогляньте тексти, визначте їх тематику; • ознайомтесь із пропонованими заголовками (запитаннями);• поверніться до текстів, уважно прочитайте кожний з них. Намагайтеся знайти ключовий мовний

вираз (слово, групу слів), який розкриває основну ідею тексту;• співвіднесіть кожний заголовок (запитання) з відповідним текстом;• відкиньте три зайвих заголовки (запитання).


Choosing a university can look like a daunting process, but there are lots of resources to help make it easier. Before you start fi lling out those university application forms, consider the many variables that affect the “fi t” of a university to your unique personality and educational goals. Take a look at the following factors.

1 ____________ Make sure the university offers the program you want — you can check program listings in this directory,

or online www.aucc.ca/can_uni/search/ index_e.html. Remember that your fi rst year is often a time to try a variety of courses, and then choose the area in which you want to specialize. You could try new fi elds of study that aren’t available in high school — courses like astronomy, philosophy or international studies.

2 ____________ Have a look at the university calendars and read the individual course outlines. You can also compare how

individual programs are designed by different universities (such as course components), the structure of courses (is it group work or exam-based?) and the fl exibility offered each year in terms of what students can choose to study.

3 ____________ Do you want a small university, where most of the students are undergraduates and live on campus?

Alternatively, would you prefer a larger university, with access to a greater range of facilities and programs?

4 ____________ A University’s reputation continues to be a major factor in how students choose where to study. That said,

choosing a university should not be done solely on reputation. Be aware that reputations are sometimes out of date or overstated, so fi rst-hand experience is often benefi cial. Prospective students can visit the campuses of their top university choices and spend some time talking with current students and getting a feel for the campus. Try to get a sense of how you’d see yourself living in that particular place for three or four years.

5 ____________ The costs associated with attending university go well beyond tuition fees to include housing, food, books,

supplies, and personal living expenses. These costs are different depending upon the type of program, type of university and the size and location of the school.

Top 5 Tips for New Students1_______________Starting to establish connections on campus can help you feel more settled and that you belong. The

perception of many fi rst years is that everyone else already has friends on campus and that they are the ONLY person who doesn’t know anyone. Get to know people in your course. This can help you feel more socially connected and enable you to chat with other students about assignments or set up study groups. There are lots of different clubs and societies that you can join to get to know other students with similar interests to yours.

2________________ Unlike high school, no one will follow you up if you don’t go to class. However, it is easy to fall behind

quickly if you’re not attending lectures, and your grades may be affected. Some courses have compulsory attendance requirements, or a participation component to the fi nal grade. Even if you are not feeling great, just being in a lecture and listening is a good idea.

3_______________Many students feel shy, anxious or awkward when attending new classes. If you have come from a small

school, you may have been a big fi sh in a little pond and now you may feel like a very small fi sh! Be positive about yourself and your abilities. Remember that you have demonstrated the abilities and qualities needed to get you in to university and you will feel more confi dent with time.

4_______________The fi rst few weeks of uni can seem pretty manageable - then the fi rst few assignments are due in the same

week! In the fi rst week of lectures you will be given a course outline for each subject which will list all of your assignments and their due dates. Write these in your diary and on a wall calendar so you can see clearly where they fall and plan ahead to ensure that you can meet all the deadlines.

5______________At uni it can be hard to tell how well you’re going. Standards are high and your grades may be a bit lower

than what you are used to, or you may not have many assignments from which to gauge your performance. This is why it is important that you recognise the achievements you make and reward yourself. Celebrate fi nishing an assignment, getting to all of your classes, doing a presentation or just keeping a balance in your life and feeling like you are managing.

Exercise 8 (p. 19). It is midnight and everybody in Charlie and Susan’s house is about to climb into bed when Charlie’s wife informs him that there is a light on in their garden shed. Charlie starts to go outside to turn off the light, but notices some thieves in the shed who are busy stealing his belongings and his sons’ bicycles.
