All newspapers are now created on computers, and you have the possibility to add sound, animation and video to your newspapers.

Make the “Jerusalem Times” for the morning after the crucifixion or the Buddhism Bugle for the events of the life of the Buddha. Use the techniques of spin, angle and re-telling as well as the tools of editing and re-editing.

Remember that Religious Education is about “learning from” as well as “learning about”. Blogs allow students to keep a record of events, or respond to events that have occurred - this could include recording for assessed work. Forums allow students to exchange ideas, develop arguments and respond to others. Anonymity is also a possibility as well as accessing the debate out of lesson time.

Allowing students to show achievement need not be limited to text it can also include audio and video. These can then be saved and posted e.g. on the school’s internet or intranet sites and then made accessible to a wider audience.

Searching the internet for information is often a fruitless task. Set up a webquest, a series of websites linked by clues or through which students need to navigate in order to find the required information.

Mediascapes

Developing Ideas 11

Mediascapes are a potentially powerful way of engaging with the world around us. Using PDAs they offer new opportunities to explore and interact with the landscape in exciting and varied ways. The Create-A-Scape website project aims to offer the inspiration for teachers and pupils to start using mediascapes, and to provide easy-to-use guides and free software to help make mediascape creation as simple and accessible as possible.
