BOYS ARE NOT “BETTER” THAN GIRLS男生比女生棒?
+ Sometimes I wish I were a boy, so people would treat1 me differently, especially my parents. I feel like they’re so old-fashioned2 when it comes to boys and girls because they always treat my younger brother better than me.
+ My parents always ask me to do housework, like scrubbing3 the floors and doing dishes, but they only want him to spend his time on his schoolwork without bothering to do any chores4. They pay more attention to his future than mine. I focus a lot on my schoolwork and have dreams of my own, like studying abroad5, yet my parents say those are unnecessary. They say I don’t need to be successful6, and all I need is to find a good husband.
+ It’s really not fair, and that’s not all. My brother gets anything he wants when he asks my parents. Heaven forbidSC4U I ever ask them for anything though, they’ll tell me to “be patient.” Whatever happened to girls and boys being equal?
CREATING EQUALITY1 FOR MEN AND WOMEN兩性平等的真諦
+ While it’s true that men and women are different, no gender is better than the other. Unfortunately, people throughout2 history have not felt this way. Many families often discriminated according to gender, especially in favor of boys. Sadly, these beliefs3 are not completely gone yet.
+ Some families today still treat boys and girls differently. Boys are often seen as successors to the family business while girls are viewed as members of the future husband’s family. These beliefs often lead to an adverse effect on the mindsets of both boys and girls, and can create conflicts4 within the family. Despite these differences in upbringing, there are many successful females these days. What’s more, girls are more likely to be caring5 and responsible toward their parents.
+ Holding boys and girls to different standards is not a healthy way for them to grow up. Boys and girls are both capable ofSC4U being special since the individual is what matters most. Parents need to recognize this by taking full responsibility6 for their children and never treating their kids differently.
