I. They _________________ in their youth – v. 9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.

It has been taught that happiness is based on what is _____________ around you.

Now, the ability to rejoice, or to express joy however is NOT dependent upon happenstance, but rather on one’s ________ with the Lord.

“The joy of the LORD is my strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, rejoice” (Philippians

4:8).

The _________ of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 - joy is the by-product of being controlled by the Holy Spirit.

“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,” (Psalm 51:12a)

Get this down: Your ability to _________ is connected with your ______ with the Lord.

II. They are ___________ by their heart – v. 9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.

A. Let your heart ________ you I believe that the heart we are looking at here in this verse is a heart that has been ________ over to God. The believer would say, “a saved heart”. Does Jesus Christ have your heart?

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved (Romans 10:9-13)

Here are some of the things we may hear from our heart:

B. Walk in the ways of your _______

A heart that belongs to Jesus Christ is also a ________ worth walking in. Your heart can guide you if it truly belongs to the Lord.

Psalm 37:23 – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.”

2

Psalm 37:31 – “The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide.”

C. And in the sight of your ________

Your eyes can lead you down some grand ____________ for the Lord. However, you must make absolute sure that you keep your eyes on the person of Jesus Christ. Are you in fact looking unto Jesus Christ? (Hebrews 12:2).

Consider all the places where your eyes can lead you:

"The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23)

D.God will bring you into ___________

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (II Corinthians 5:10)

III. They continue to ____________ – v. 10 Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity.

One of the major problems today is that no one takes ____________.

Someone has said, “We get _____ too soon and _______ too late.”

A. Remove _______ from your heart

I’m talking about ____________ disappointment. Don’t suppress it, deny it, or ignore it. Deal with it quickly. Once something surfaces take care of it.

The Hebrew word “remove” means:

The Hebrew word “sorrow” means:

B. Put away ______ from your flesh

This is taking specific about _________ defilement.

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “Youthful ______ lay a foundation for aged sinners.”

“Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (II Timothy 2:22).

C. For childhood and _______ are vanity

The Preacher is not saying that childhood and youth are not to be _________, but that they ______ away so quickly. Life is like a vapor, or smoke. Childhood and youth are transient. The saying, “You are only young once” is so true.

Conclusion: Young people – you have been given some very good ______ from the Preacher. Will you ________ it? Will you take it to heart and choose to live it out in your lives?
