B IB LE STUDY

Sub-Theme/5: The Work That Pleases God.Topic: Expanding The Kingdom: The Basics.Texts: John 3:1-8; Acts 9:18-21Aims: i. To understand the basics of expanding God’s

Kingdom;ii. To appreciate how best to engage the basics

today, to Kingdom advantage.

Introduction: Having seen the basis of Kingdom expansion last week, we want to proceed today to consider the basics of God’s Kingdom expansion. We will thus be examining the very important and most vital requirements for Kingdom expansion. From Acts of the Apostles, we can quickly identify these to be: 1. the work of the Holy Spirit through yielded human vessels, 2. preaching and teaching and 3. Prayers that can heal the spiritual blindness of sinners (2 Cor. 4:4).

Study Guide1. List and discuss what you understand as the basics of

God’s Kingdom expansion.2. Examining the biblical basics of Kingdom expansion:a) How did the move, power and manifestation of the Holy

Spirit affect the expansion of the Kingdom? Acts 2:4, 14, 40-41; 4:8, 13-14; 5:12-16; 9:32-35.

b) In what ways did preaching and teaching impact on sinners and sweep them into the Kingdom? Acts 5:21.

c) What effect did prayers have on both preparing the hearts of sinners and convicting them of their sins? Matt. 9:38; Acts 4:23-24, 31; 2 Thess. 3:1-2.

3. What assurances do we have that the basics of Kingdom expansion can facilitate the spread of the gospel today? Matt. 4:23; with John 14:12; Acts 1:8.

Conclusion: The Apostles began the race and Kingdom expansion; we of the latter days have the biblical assurance to do much more than they. They amply manifested the basics of Kingdom expansion. Let us follow in their footsteps for faster and greater results.

Food For Thought: Help make the glory of the latter house greater.

Memory Verse: Acts 1:8.

COMPARING THE PRESENT WITH THE FUTURE OF BELIEVERSYet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. Rom. 8:18

Apostle Paul earlier in Roman 8:17 revealed to us that since “we are God’s children, we are His heirs and together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share in his glory, we must also share in Christ suffering.” It’s the perfect set up for what Paul reflect on in verses 18-30, which is the present suffering of our circumstances contrasted with the future glory of eternity in Heaven.

Glory connotes honor, splendor, or magnificence, and Paul told us that we are going to be glorified with Christ in eternity. But because Christ suffered on Earth, having his same inheritance means that we as believers are bound to suffer too.

However, Apostle Paul told us that he believes “the present suffering is nothing compared to the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

His main point to the believers today is that there is “hope”. We have hope in the glory of Christ, even if our current circumstances aren’t perfect.

Heb. 11:1 says that “faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen. It gives us assurance about the things we cannot see.” As he

detailed about creation groaning for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God (v. 21-23), he explained that our hope should be firmly established in Christ’s death and resurrection. This is our confidence, that even if our circumstances don’t appear to be glorious, “we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it” (v. 25).

For believers to have a confidence in eternal glory that is rooted in the truth, the first thing to do is to get real with God. Taking a look at our circumstances, and understand that Jesus Christ never promised any easy life for believers; he assuredly warned believers that there would be suffering. Reflecting on the truth of (Rom. 8:15) believers can confidently say that “we have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear, but a spirit of adoption as God’s children.” And God’s children are not victims to our circumstances.

In verses 26-27, believers are reminded that the Holy Spirit is constantly interceding on our behalf, as it “helps us in our weakness.” Two out of the three members of the Holy Trinity are constantly praying for us! That is powerful! We can partner with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit’s intercession by speaking truth over ourselves and taking thoughts captive.

Verse 28 says “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Knowing who God is, that he is good, that he carried a promise to make the negative situations, the tragic situations, the seemingly hopeless situations, work for our good, can continue to fill us with hope. Because it is truly glorious that believers get to spend an eternity with a God who loves us enough to redeem us.

My prayer for us is that we would believe in our identity as sons and daughters of God. And any question marks, about our worth, adoption, inheritance, and our future would fall away as we come to know the heart of God. May God fill us with hope to believe in a good future and a glorious eternity, in-spite of our present circumstances and sufferings.
