Hi Choir Friends

In case you have not seen this wonderful tribute to John Shields [husband of GHC Soprano Robin June Hood], here it is.  I haven’t found the date and time of his memorial (not on the link at the bottom of this testament as suggested) but I hope to go if I can. I met John many years ago when I took mandala painting process with his then wife, Madelaine. John nursed her through a lengthy, painful few years before her death. It was so great when he met Robin Hood a short time later and was surprised to find such a soul mate, when he had imagined being single for the rest of his life.  He touched so many lives…as described so aptly by this article.  Reading it reminded me how important it is to review why we are here in this Life and how we are playing it out.

Word Of Mouth / Recommendations

Happy Feet!

This morning i had the most amazing pedicure I've ever had in Victoria.   My feet and legs were treated to 1 hour of trimming, clipping, massaging, polishing and various applications of heat.   I came home feeling so relaxed and cared for.   I also noticed that the manicure clients seemed to be having a wonderful time.

The new salon - just opened in December - and is well worth looking into:

Cook Street Nails And Spa, 247 Cook Street(right beside Oxford Foods) 778-433-888.

This will be an awesome experience for anyone who wants to make their own drum. Gizelle is a gifted shaman who has much wisdom to impart. It will be worth the price just to spend the time with her. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested.

Community Networking

Please help me change the life of a child with a mentor

Big Brothers Big Sisters in Victoria matches about 600 children to improve their lives. We have a waiting list of over 100. Most are boys and stay on that list for up to 2 years. We do not have enough resources to set up the matches which is an important step where great care must be taken. We are raising money to reduce that waiting list. I'd like you to sponsor me in the annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser on April 30th for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria.

You can do it online and automatically get a tax receipt.

Bottle Drive (until June)Cycle Of Hope For ALS

The Cycle of Hope team have raised over $200,000 over the last five years for ALS. We are going into our 6th year and need to raise at least $25,000 to sponsor a research student to find a cause and a cure for ALS. We are also committed to raise money for the Lemonade Fund which helps the children whose parents are living with, or have died from ALS. I will be collecting donations of recyclable bottles/cans/drink cartons on Monday nights until June 2017. The choir and our community helped us raise over $9,500 in bottles this year, $1,000 more than the year before! Any donation no matter how small would be much appreciated.

Re-Write Your Life Now An On-Line Course With Daily Om! With Junie Swadron, Author, Psychotherapist, Writing Coach

I Am So Excited!

Over the years I have received countless requests from people who do not live in Victoria, asking me to offer my workshop “Re-Write Your Life” as an online program.

It was a quandary because I wanted to make the experience as deep and meaningful online as my students experience when they are in the same room with me. Well, it's taken me a while, but I did it!  I won't lie and tell you it was easy. It had to meet my standards, which are very high when it comes to delivering my work. And you can now experience it yourself! launched it this week and I am so excited!

Read all about it here. Purchase the full program on DAILY OM for as little as $10.00!

Accommodation Wanted Very responsible, quiet 42-year-old single mother on a limited income, with small well-behaved dog, urgently needs a batchelor suite or small 1-bedroom apartment for herself long term, and, temporarily, her 20-year-old son who is undergoing cancer treatment. We have known both mom and son for many years and wholeheartedly vouch for them as clean, quiet, considerate and responsible tenants. Erik, the son, has been living independently and supporting himself for 2 years and looks forward to doing so again, once he has completed and recovered from chemotherapy.

The mom's current landlord unexpectedly requires her suite for personal use, so, in addition to the stress of caring for her ill son, she must find a new home in this difficult rental market. $1000 maximum, preferably including hydro and storage space.  Contact Dorinda: text or call 250-882-9994; email [email protected] Submitted by: Christie Eng and Karen Yearsley former GHC tenors/altos

Sunday Afternoon Sacred Writing Circles With Junie Swadron, Author, Psychotherapist, Writing Coach

With Junie Swadron, Author, Psychotherapist, Writing Coach Sunday Afternoon Writing Circles is about sharing from our hearts, it’s laughter, it’s friendship. It’s learning to stop judging our work, it’s sipping tea. It’s finding our voice and feeling safe to speak our words out loud. It’s about being authentic and kind. It’s about music and moving our bodies during the break. It’s about creativity and it’s about catharsis – allowing the writing to become our wise teacher. It’s poetry and it’s prose. It is short stories and drawings that we write from. In short—it's a love fest, both on and off the page.
