Symptom

The following error may appear when adding certain objects to a query in Web Intelligence.

Database error: (CS) "Unexpected behavior : com.sap.connectivity.cs.core.CSError: Bad Value for Field" . (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)

Environment

l SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 l SAP HANA 1.0 Database l UNX Universe Connectivity using the HANA JDBC driver

 

 

Reproducing the Issue

1. Create a new Web Intelligence report off of a UNX that uses JDBC connectivity to SAP HANA 2. In the Query Panel, select the objects you want the report to contain 3. Refresh the Webi report

The error will occur on refresh.

Note: Issue does not seem to occur when refreshing directly from the HANA Client or from the Information Design Tool.

 

Cause

One of the database fields was defined with a length of 30 characters.  Some of the data was longer than 30 characters which caused a buffer overflow in the Connection Server driver.  This issue appears to be specific to JDBC and the same workflow with an ODBC connection did not occur.

 

Resolution

There are two known solutions for this issue:

1. Ensure that the length of the object is equal to or greater than the maximum value from the database.   For best results, ensure that the Universe definition and the Database definition for the objects match.

 

2. Utilize the ODBC driver for connectivity to the HANA database.  The ODBC driver does not produce this error.
