Lesson 2
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (New
International Version)
Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (King James Version)
He gives us His Word so that we retain and strengthen our faith.
God gives us faith to be pleasing to Him and receive salvation.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it
is] the gift of God”
Ephesians, 2: 8
“But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and [that] he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek
him”Hebrews, 11: 6
“Seeing [it is] one God, which shall
justify the circumcision by
faith, and uncircumcision through faith”
Romans, 3: 30
“So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God”
Romans, 10: 17
First, we must accept the gift of faith that God gives us, which can be secured by miracles in our lives (Habakkuk 2: 4).
This faith leads us to make it consistent with works(James 2: 17).
EXERCISING FAITH1
Faith is more than a feeling. The genuine faith grow in spite of doubts or difficulties (Luke 17: 5-6).
We grow in faith when we interact daily with Jesus, trusting in his promises (Galatians 2: 20).
Throughout our lives the faith grows as a "shield" that protects us from the "wiles of the devil" (Ephesians 6: 16).
GROWING IN FAITH2
“Above all, taking the
shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all
the fiery darts of the wicked”
“Above all, taking the
shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all
the fiery darts of the wicked”
Ephesians, 6: 16
Jesus Christ is the ROCK on which we anchor our faith strong.
Jesus Christ is the ROCK on which we anchor our faith strong.
Faith, apart from being based on sound
doctrine, is trust in the person who spoke these doctrines.
“It is not enough to believe about Christ; we must believe in Him. The only faith that will benefit us is that which embraces Him as a personal Saviour; which appropriates His merits to ourselves. Many hold faith as an opinion. Saving faith is a transaction by which those who receive Christ join themselves in covenant relation with God. Genuine faith is life. A living faith means an increase of vigor, a confiding trust, by which the soul becomes a conquering power”
E.G.W. (The Desire of Ages, p. 347)
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of
courage; be strong”
1 Corinthians, 16: 13 NIV
