SUMMARY UPDATE

It’s March… can you believe it?

u Our property management has moved backto their Corporate Office.

u Cindy and Yvette have already proved it ismuch more efficient.

u We are still in the process of fine tuning ourpolicies and procedures.

u Rules and regulations will be reviewed andready for the membership review this Fall.

u Elections are this month and we will bring our members up to datewith our goals for the year.

THE BOARD WORKS FOR YOUThe establishment of Board goals are necessary to continue our improve-ments. Our team and our management must be strong analytically. Asmost of you heard in the open session, Mrs. Boyd had a question on poolfurniture maintenance. This was because we changed the procedure of howand when the furniture gets cleaned. I would like to assure the membershipif a change like this occurs… it is more than a financial decision. I believethis is why the Board was voted in for; their experience to manage, analyze, and implement good practices. As the membership, it is your job to give usconstructive observation and suggestions to analyze those areas of concern.

The board’s fiduciary responsibility is to take care of the needs of the com-munity, while balancing the budget. Once an issue is brought up to theBoard, members should know that the issue will be reviewed and if neces-sary, a response will be sent back within 30 to 45 days.

Remember, the Board are volunteers and meet once a month. Starting inApril, there will be a form to fill out at the open meeting and online forsuggestions and/or observations. These items would be investigated andaddressed at the next meeting (committee, executive, or open board). Thiswill assist the Board in being most efficient. v

F or the month of March, Albert Managementreceived 10 architectural applications and 8 out of

the 10 received were incomplete. For those of you turn-ing in your applications complete, thank you. For thoseof you not turning in a complete application, pleasehelp us here.

Normally, the policy is that if management doesn’treceive a complete application it would be returned tothe owner with a letter stating why the application isn’tcomplete which only prolongs approval. TheArchitectural Committee and Board of Directors arehappy that homeowners want to improve their resi-dence and do not want to hold up approval.

We are asking that each homeowner take a little moretime in providing a complete application to the man-agement office. This includes the following:

u The entire 4 page application turned in and signedwhere indicated

u The appropriate addition, improvement and/ormodification checked on the front page

u Required attachments such as drawings or plans

u The application fee and refundable deposit

u The contractor information as outlined on page #3of the application

NEIGHBOR AWARENESS SIGNATURESPlease remember that neighbor awareness signatures arejust that, Neighbor Awareness, not Neighbor Approval! If you turn in an application and neighbor awareness

signatures are not obtained, it will be up to theArchitectural Committee to approve the applicationwithout the neighbor awareness signature and on a caseby case basis.

If your neighbor is not home, the house is vacant or youare unable to get in touch with the owner, owners mustnotify an absentee owner in writing of their intendedmodification to their residence. You may also contactthe management office at 760-346-9000 and they canhelp provide you with the name of your neighbor. Youcan then look up your neighbors name and try to makecontact by using the Roster provided to you by theCountry Club. You can include a copy of the letter thatyou mailed to your neighbor so that management andthe Architectural Committee are aware of yourattempts.

IMPORTANT DUE DATEThe Architectural Committee normally meets on the2nd Thursday of each month. This means that all appli-cations must be turned into the management office nolater than the Friday prior to the meeting date, no laterthan 10:00 am. This allows management enough timeto process the application, include it with the rest of thereceived applications and get the complete packet out tothe Architectural Committee for their “ArchitecturalRounds” on Tuesday. If you do not have your applica-tion turned in to the management office located at41865 Boardwalk, Suite 101, Palm Desert, CA 92211 by10:00 am, the Friday before themeeting, it will be reviewed at thefollowing monthsArchitectural Committeemeeting.

The architectural applica-tion and guidelines areavailable on the website atwww.chaparralcc.org. Youcan go to Documents andForms, scroll down toHomeowners Associationand the Application andPolices are there for you toprint or review. You may alsocontact the managementoffice at 760-346-9000. v

February, March, April....and AdiosFebruary, March, April....and AdiosBy KAREN RODRIGUEZ, House Chair

F ebruary is a month with lots of letters in its name but few days. That being said, westill seem to pack lots of things into our schedules. Great golf events, Valentine’s

Day celebrating, and even somemischief…….enter SpeakeasyChaparral and the 1920s. Menin black, ladies in fringed dress-es and flapping strings of pearlsentered to the flashing of mediacameras and the offer of smokesfrom the lovely strolling saleslady. Excited to be gatheredwith friends, they chatted andordered their favorite drinks,

including the delicious evening specialty, Between theSheets , as they ignored the fact that Prohibition still wasthe law. Strolling next into dinner and the great sounds ofNight Shift the evening continued on to a roaring greattime for all.

We are now in March with our last Club Chaparral of theseason, History of Rock ’n Roll which was held on March 8,and an all-time favorite Western dinner-dance where wecan all wear jeans, eat great bar-be-qued vittles and kick upour heels at Dancin’ In Denim on Saturday the 25th.

Remember next April too as we will once again host ourchildren’s egg hunt the Saturday before Easter, and followed the next day by our fabulous brunch. April, and the endof the winter Chaparral season, culminates in our big fiesta and dance Adios Amigos! So, get these events on your cal-endar and be ready for more fun in our sunny desert Clubhouse. And then keep your eyes and ears open as ourSummer events take shape for your continued enjoyment. v

By MIKE JENSEN, Golf Course Superintendent

The golf course is always in a state of transition. When the greens are hungry, off color and grow-

ing very slowly, they tend to be very fast. The prob-lem with the greens being lean and hungry is therepair time for ball marks is almost doubled. Thevisual appearance is not as desirable and under stressthe greens are more susceptible to disease and insectdamage. It is always our desire to give you the bestconditions possible, while maintaining a healthystand of turf. The tournament schedule and weather

conditions affect the timing of our applications of fertilizer and chemi-cals. Sometimes we struggle to find an open window to apply products. It is always a balancing act to keep on top of everything. That’s why Iwould like to personally thank all of you members who help, from fixingball marks on greens, filling divots, dead-heading flower blooms, pickingup palm fronds and trash, volunteering on committees and just giving ofyour time! We couldn’t do the job we do without your help. Our sincer-est thanks to all of you! v

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I could fillthe page with theseand it wouldn’t be

enough to correctly show our appreci-ation for volunteers. Those memberswho help on committees and specialinterest groups are VITAL to the suc-cess of Chaparral. During the lastweek of February, finishing with theInvitational Tournament, the successesof the week were largely attributed tovolunteers and the hours they spend. If you volunteer on a board committee;like Golf, Greens and Grounds,Finance or House and Appearance oran event committee, we thank you foryour time. Those who recently spenthours sprucing up the flowers aroundthe clubhouse, they look awesome andwe thank you. While some work mustbe completed by employees, volunteerscan stay active and help out the com-munity at the same time. If you areinterested in volunteering for a com-mittee for the Club or the HOA, pleasestop by.

WHO’S RESPONSIBLE? You are! Asthe homeowner, it is your responsibilityto make sure your family and guestsknow the rules and follow them. Ifsomeone gets hurt as a result of yourguests’ actions, the homeowner is ulti-mately on the hook. Please inform yourfamily and guest of dress codes, courserules and proper use of the fitness cen-ter and tennis courts. When completingwaivers, many guests do not completethe forms entirely, legibly or honestly(we’ve had a few smart-aleck formsturned in). While this hasn’t resulted inany major accident or injury, we wouldlike to avoid that at all costs. With Easterand Spring Break coming up soon, thenumber of guests will increase. Let’s besafe and have a fun time. Thank you.v
