WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2014SHEEP AND LAMB AUCTION

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs traded mostly steady with a firmer undertone noted. Feeder lambs were thinly traded, but mostly 5.00 – 10.00 higher on comparable sales. Slaughter and feeder lambs trended down as the sale went on due to decreased buyer interest. Slaughter ewes and bucks traded steady with instances of 10.00 higher. All goat classes are compared to a very thin test last week. Kid goats were too thinly traded last week for an adequate market test, but a higher undertone is noted. Nannies/does and slaughter bucks traded mostly steady. Traded activity was slow on good to very good buyer demand. There was not enough replacement sheep or goats to quote or trend. In the sheep supply 23% slaughter lambs, 43% slaughter ewes and bucks, 33% feeder lambs, with the balance being replacement ewes. The goat supply consisted of 63% slaughter kids, 30% slaughter nannies and 7% slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.
