What Is My New Pet?

Last weekend, I went to the petstore with my dad to get my new pethamster. I chose a male hamster thatlooked bright and active. He was

running around his cage. He hadbrown and white fur and a pink nose.

Hamsters are rodents like mice,squirrels, and gophers. There aremany kinds and colors of hamsters.Hamsters make terrific pets. They

are small, and they are fun to watch.

Where DoesMy Hamster Live?

I keep my hamster in a specialwire cage. The bars of the cage areclose together so that he can’t escapethrough them. Hamsters can use the

bars in their cages for climbing.

On the floor of the cage, Iput a deep layer of special wood

shavings. I bought them at the petstore. Hamsters like to burrow, sothe shavings need to be deepenough for them to dig into.

What DoesMy Hamster Eat?

My hamster eats mostly seeds.

He also likes to nibble on fresh fruitand vegetables. Hamsters need freshwater to drink. My hamster has aspecial bottle for his water. He can

drink from it whenever he wants.

for My Hamster?Every week, I clean out my

hamster’s cage and fill it with freshwood shavings. I wash out the water

bottle every week also.
