STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs were 11.00 – 15.00 higher on comparable trades and feeder lambs had no test. Slaughter ewes traded 14.00 – 28.00 higher and slaughter bucks traded 20.00 higher. Kid goats traded 4.00 – 8.00 higher. Nannies/does traded 10.00 lower and bucks/Billies traded 10.00 lower. Traded activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. In the sheep supply 55% slaughter lambs, 45% slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 52% slaughter kids, 33% slaughter nannies, 15% slaughter billies and wethers and balance being replacement nannies. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Steer and heifer market continues to be steady to strong. The cow/calf pair and bred cow market has finally caught up with the price of the calf market. The market was hundreds of dollars higher per unit. Lot of people on hand with many buyers not getting what they wanted. Perhaps the next cow/calf auction could be stronger. Wednesday, April 16, 2014About 400 head of slaughter cattle were sold today with the market trending about $2-3 lower as compared to last. Demand for lean cattle was again high, however, demand for fat cattle dropped, with a lot of overlap in prices between lean and fat. Bulls this week were lower as compared to last, attributed mainly to a significant difference in quality. Demand for lean beef slaughter cows was very high, ranging from $99.00 -107.50/cwt. Fat beef cows were slightly lower and steady compared to last week, ranging from $103.00-107.50. Holstein slaughter cows were $2-3 lower than last week, and similar to beef cows, the demand for lean Holstein cows was high with prices in the mid nineties, lean Holstein cows ranged from the mid eighties to mid nineties.
