JUNE 10, 2018

The main difference between the devotions to the hearts of Jesus and Mary:

Jesus emphasizes his divine heart as being full of love for mankind, but with this love for the most part being ignored or rejected, while

Devotion to Mary's heart is essentially concerned with the love that her heart has for Jesus, for God.

The love of her heart is meant to be a model for the way we should love God.

Her heart is immaculate, that is sinless, means that she is the only fully human person who is able to really love God in the way that he should be loved.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a devotional name used to refer to the interior life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections, and, above all, her virginal love for God the Father, her maternal love for her son Jesus, and her compassionate love for all people.

Honoring Mary's Immaculate Heart is really just another way of honoring Mary as the person who was chosen to be the Mother of God, recognizing her extraordinary holiness and the immense love she bestowed on Jesus as his mother, the person who was called to share in and co-operate in his redemptive sufferings. Why should we have this devotion? The aim of the devotion is to unite mankind to God through Mary's heart, and this process involves the ideas of consecration and reparation.

A person is consecrated to Mary's Immaculate Heart as a way of being completely devoted to God. This involves a total gift of self, something only ultimately possible with reference to God; but Mary is our intermediary in this process of consecration.

Because of the strong analogy between Jesus and Mary, the consecration to Mary's Immaculate Heart is closely linked to the consecration to Jesus' Sacred Heart, although it is subordinate and dependent on it. That is, although the act of consecration is ultimately addressed to God, it is an act that is made through Mary.

Thousands of charitable organizations are being denied funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The federal government has introduced a litmus test. To qualify for funding, organizations must agree with the Liberal Government on issues such as abortion and gender expression. This has impacted more than 150 jobs and more than $1 million in funding in the Archdiocese of Toronto alone. Across Canada 1,500 groups had their applications rejected this year vs. 126 in 2017.

Cardinal Collins invites you to write to your federal Member of Parliament to respectfully express your concerns. Visit www.savesummerjobs.ca to send a message to your MP, a process that will take less than 3 minutes. You can also donate at the same site to support those organizations impacted by the new application guidelines.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The parishes of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Our Lady of Good Health are combining to form a Knights of Columbus Chapter to serve the needs of the parish communities.

You can find more information about the Knights at www.kofc.org and https://ontariokofc.ca. For more information regarding this venture please contact: Jude Aloysius at 416-569-5833 or Hamilton Wiltshire at 647-228-4810.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sarah couldn’t get along with her mother, so she tried living on the streets at age 14. She hitchhiked to Toronto to move in with her cousin, who soon kicked her out. Having no place to go, Sarah decided to try Sancta Maria House. She initially hated the structure and rules. However, the supportive staff won her trust and helped her return to school. At the end of her stay, she restored her relationship with her mother. ShareLife-funded agencies like Sancta Maria House are helping at-risk youth turn their lives around.

Please make a sacrificial gift to ShareLife through your parish or sharelife.org

-------------------------------------------------------------------------.Jesus, our path to salvation, calls us brother and sister and commands that we do the will of God.

From the beginning, God has promised his people redemption. His love is stronger than sin and prevails over evil. Jesus comes to us to embody that love and set an example for us to follow. In doing God’s will, he

shows us the way to the Father and calls us to do the same on our journey to eternal life.

JUNE IS SENIORS’ MONTH IN ONTARIO We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Seniors within our Parish for sharing their gifts of wisdom, leadership and presence with our community. Borrowing from the words of St. Paul: “ I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1: 3-6)

Keeping in mind that we are celebrating Seniors this month maybe each of us could start something new by inviting a Senior neighbour or friend to join you at Mass or at one of the many events published in this bulletin. If you don’t know any Seniors then our challenge for you in this month of June is to do an act of kindness for a parishioner or neighbour. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please bring your ideas. Light refreshments will be served. We do need to know the number of people attending this meeting so please phone the parish office and leave your name or email Lorraine at [email protected]
