3 Squadron Training Officer -> Function:

Function:

(What are you there for ?)

Responsible for carrying out your Squadron's Training Program and for providing proper facilities for holding all training and examinations conducted by the Squadron

4 STO Duties (1)

Duties:

1. Responsible for liaison with the CPS National Training Department through the District TO.

2. Represent the Squadron at all District Training Meetings/appoint a qualified substitute to attend.

3. Responsible for providing instructors and, where required, proctors for all training courses conducted by the Squadron

5 STO Duties (2)

4. Ascertain that instructors are provided with proper instructional material – (instructors notes, Power Point slides etc).

5. Responsible for determining the quantities of course material required by the Squadron (DSO).

6. Responsible for applying for all examinations required by the Squadron (DTO).

6 STO Duties (3)

7. Responsible for the technical excellence of the Squadron training program.

8. In the absence of the Squadron Commander and the Executive Officer, perform the

duties and exercise the powers of the Squadron Commander.

7 STO Duties (4)

The Training Officer may be assisted in the performance of these duties by a Squadron Training Committee of which the Training Officer shall be the chair and which may be divided into the following suggested sub-committees:

(a) Boating;(b) Advanced Grades;(c) Elective Courses;(d) Proctors;(e) Examinations;(f) Course Material;(g) Promotion, or such other sub-committees as

the Training Officer may decide.

What are the qualities of a STO?

1.Organizer & Coordinator NOT an Instructor2. Communicate within Squadron

3. Lead from the Front – be seen4. Communicate with District

5. DON'T take on too much work

10 Start of Season

Order course material 15 July (DSO – 'cc' DTO) Book classroom accommodation Confirm Instructor availability Let your own Bridge know your costs & plans Let District know what courses/ numbers you

are planning TRY to set up your course data on WBAS, i.e.

course information & student names when registration complete

11 During the Course

Order your exams from DTO … EARLY or as soon as the courses have started

Acknowledge emails and reply when time Remember to let DTO have your student

numbers for National Stats – I will remind you ! Set up Grad Dates and Communicate ... your

Bridge & District need to know Use Proctors for “one-on-one” contact with

students … VERY Important

12 Exam time

Set up Exams venues/ times & Communicate Brief proctors/ Exam markers – ACCURACY Send written & unused Boating exams to DTO Send PCOC/ RoC(M) exams/ Apps to HQ Send written Advanced exams to DEEs (CPS2) Enter marks Boating/ electives into WBAS or

send CPS2 or Excel Spreadsheets to DTO Look out for promising instructors or Bridge
