Definitions

Unit energy consumption (UEC) is the average estimated annual electricity usage (kWh) per unit for a specific product or device.

Unit energy savings (UES) is the average estimated annual electricity savings (kWh) per unit for a specific product or device.

Coincidence Factor (CF) is the fraction of rated load that is actually connected during peak demand periods.

Unit Demand Reduction (UDR) is the average estimated demand reduction (kW) per unit for a specific product or device.

We assume no variation in the time of day people leave their air cleaners on. At 8 hours of operation a day, this results in a coincident demand factor of

0.33 (8/24).

Soundbars: Tier Definition Due to high market penetration of ENERGY STAR soundbars, the

basic tier for soundbars is ENERGY STAR + 50% But what does + 50% mean? Looking at the ENERGY STAR spec:

• Products must have automatic power down (APD) functionality• APD must be enabled by default

• Psleep ≤ 1 W + sum(Pwake,i)

• Products with optimal disc players must have Pactive ≤ Pon + sum(Padd,i)

• Pidle ≤ 5 W + sum(Pidle allowance,i)

• ηamplifier ≥ 0.44 for 20 ≤ Pin < 100

• ηamplifier ≥ 0.55 for Pin ≥ 100

• 50% higher ηamplifier than ENERGY STAR base requirement

Room ACs: DEER(ish) Approach to Calculating UDRs

DEER lists IOU-specific, split AC kW/kWh values for residential buildings by SEER category (SEER 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21).

For this workpaper we use the average across all the SEER categories to estimate the kW/kWh value for room ACs.
