What does “Operation” mean ?

Operation field is the working area in which the basic works to prepare the train composition suitable for transportation of accepted passengers and freight and to ensure the mobility of these compositions within traffic and the complementary works such as ticket sale and check and freight acceptance and delivery are carried out.

Who is SIGNALLER – Station Master ? Signaller;

• ensures the acceptance of the trains to the stations and their dispatching from stations by using the local signalling and switch command systems at the stations,• carries out the procedures of train traffic and draws up the documents related to the traffic,• plans the passenger and freight train compositions considering the specifications of wagons and goods and gets the shunting movements of the train carried out and have the train compositions prepared,• draws up the documentation of the train and delivers train,• sells tickets at small stations,• accepts goods and draws up transportation documents at small stations, • takes protective and precautionary measures in case of accidents and emergency situations.

Who is Switchman – Brakeman ?Switchman;

• carries out the shunting movements of the train compositions by using the local signalling and switch command systems at the stations,• couples the rolling stocks to one another and uncouples them,• ensures the entry and exit of the trains on station tracks by using the local signalling and switch command systems at the stations,• keeps the wagons on site safe,• performs the cleaning of switches, signs and installments at stations, • carries out the inspection of the train compositions,• monitors the train during travel and applies handbrake if necessary.

Who is Train Chief ?Train Chief;

•directs the switchmen, brakemen and conductors assigned for the passenger and freight trains,• checks the availability of passenger and freight trains for operation and accepts trains, • carries out the procedures regarding traffic during the travel of train,• draws up train documentation,• performs the shunting movements by using signalling and switch command systems, if necessary, • uses the protection and communication tools on board,• informs the passengers on board, • creates solution for the problems to occur on board in emergency situations ,• contacts with related people on the traffic safety in case of any irregularities to emerge during the travel of train and executes the necessary measures to be taken,• uses safety systems of wagons in case of possible risks,• takes protective and precautionary measures in case of accidents and emergency situations Railway Operation on ECVET-12-14/Dec/2011 İstanbul/TURKEY

Who is Conductor – On Board Staff ?Conductor;

• checks passenger wagons and preparations before travel, • welcomes the passengers on board and ensures their boarding and unboarding as well as seating,• opens and closes the train doors,• informs the passengers about travel schedule and fee tariffs, • checks and sells tickets on board,• carries out catering services for passengers in accordance with travel schedule and rules. • makes announcement and passenger information,• launches broadcasting, • uses safety systems of wagons in case of possible risks,• uses protection and communication tools on board,• takes protective and precautionary measures in case of accidents and emergency situations,• sees off the passengers.

Who is Ticket Seller ?Ticket Seller;

•informs the passengers on train tariffs, ticket sale systems, products and their prices,

•sales tickets directly to the passenger at the station,

•makes announcements and passenger information,

•uses protection and communication tools at the stations,

• takes protective and precautionary measures in case of accidents and emergency situations

Who is Logistic Staff ?Logistic Staff;• informs the passengers on train tariffs and freight Transportation charges,

• accepts and delivers freight,

• calculates cost of transportation and draws up transportation documentation,

• performs procedures for transportation irregularities,

• defines suitable wagons according to the nature of freight,

• ensures safe loading of the wagons,
