Primary Section Full-time students from primary schools which adopt the local primary curriculum

Secondary Section

Full-time students from secondary schools which adopt the local secondary curriculum

All of the above + full-time students from schools which do NOT adopt the local curriculum, e.g. international and ESF schools

• All entries must be nominated by schools • Each school can nominate at most 20 entries, choosing any of the three sections

Poetic Form

Poetic form is open but should exhibit rhyme, rhythm, imagery and structure.

Poetic form is open but should exhibit rhyme, rhythm, imagery and structure, in addition, the use of poetic devices such as alliteration, simile and metaphor.

Length Nil. Students should decide on the most appropriate length to express the theme of their entries.

• All poems are judged anonymously and the name of the author must not appear in the entries.

• Poems must not have been previously published, self-published or published on a website or broadcasted before 1 June 2013.

• Poems must be the original work of the author. Any infringement of competition rules and regulations will disqualify the student from taking part in the competition or winning an award.

It is a pleasure to bring in the illustrious ringmaster In confident strides, he marches up and tames most savage beastsYet nobody hears the finely groomed man’s secret yearning…“The way these poor felines are treated is a disaster!Let them out their cages! They should be allowed freedom at least!

Spectacularly costumed, a silly clown stumbles on stageSmiling, he superbly sets up a string of tricks and spills jokesYet nobody hears him wistfully pine for…“A day of no pretense – where I can comfortably act my ageI am sick and tired of being treated as one big hoax!”

Hopping and swirling, the acrobat soars into view on stageHe does heart-stopping somersaults and lands perfectly backYet nobody hears the supple and lithe man’s dreams…“I desire a ticket to freedom and to be uncagedPlant wings in my heart - so that I may fly on my own track!”

Exerting all effort to twist and turn his fragile waistEagerly the contortionist flashes the crowd radiant warm smilesYet nobody hears the pitiful man’s only dream and wish…“During all these terrible years of training, my body is going to waste ”Especially when I am disallowed to even rest for a while!”

So, the show goes on with sassy humor and splendid fanfare Sanguine exteriors hide the circus men’s suppressed wishesSadly, no one knows of their sorrowing and depths of despairSilently, their unheard wishes, swarming in their hearts, itches

b) explore the techniques to guide students to write and improve their writing according to abilities

DEADLINE FOR ONLINE ENTRY SUBMISSION

• Teacher-in-charge is required to submit students’ entries to the Education Bureau on or before 22 February 2013.

• Teacher may change choice of entry on or before the above deadline by unchecking/checking the “Submit to EDB” button at “Teacher Zone/ Students’ Poems”.

However, no amendment could be made after the deadline. The system will identify and record the last submission

before the deadline as the final entry/entries for each school.

• A confirmation email will be sent to the TIC upon each entry submission to EDB.

• Please save your Final record of submission for your own reference.

What’s the problem with Entry 2?

Ans: Originality.This poem is a mere reproduction of a classic fairy tale “The Little Red Riding Hood” in a poetic form.

Remarks for Teachers:Teachers are advised to guide students to be more creative and to produce original entry, e.g. by changing the characters or the ending of the fairy tale.
