Capture The Heart Beat Of . . . WebQuest Safari Project

Safari Mates assumed the roles of Anthropologists, Ethnomusicologists, and Videographers (grouped in Safari Corps and holding Corps Collaborations) and embarked on a WebQuest Safari to

scope out, track, and capture African percussion. With their music teacher as their Guide, they traveled on an expedition to explore

several African cultural arts web and offline resources to connect to, compass, compare, and contrast the sounds, pulses, and patterns of

percussion in African music and culture.

During their journey they compiled, coordinated, completed, and communicated digital research presentations focused on African geography, civilization, history, customs and culture, languages,

drumming and instrument playing, body percussion and movement, singing, storytelling, dancing, clothing, art, and visual display;

cataloged, categorized, and classified African percussion instruments; created, charted, and communicated African dance

drumming ensembles; composed, charted, and communicated digital African Xylophone polyrhythm compositions; and collaborated and cooperated to create, coordinate, and communicate a culminating

African dance drama.

As the Safari Mates trekked on to engage the WebQuest process, they captured and communicated their creative products in digital

African cultural arts “informance” Podcasts/Videocasts and critiqued and celebrated them with students from other schools in Tribal

Council videoconference sessions.
