The concept of The League of Nations was conceived by

President Woodrow

Wilson

5

The League of Nations was formed

as a result of the Paris Peace

Conference that ended the First

World War. Its principal mission was

to maintain world peace. Though

the American Wilson conceived the

idea, the United States Senate

would not agree and the U.S.A.

never joined The League of Nations.

In an address to the United

States Senate in 1919, President

Woodrow Wilson said, “The

League of Nations is the only

hope of mankind.”

Only eight percent of the time since

the beginning of recorded history

has the world been entirely at

peace. In over 3,100 years, only

286 have been warless and 8,000

treaties have been broken in this

time. —Christian Victory

The Beatitudes (Part 5)

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

20

Peace: 1 freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility: you can while away an hour or two in peace and seclusion.• mental calm; serenity: the peace of mind this insurance gives you.freedom from or the

cessation of war or violence (Oxford English Dictionary)

21

The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom and it means

“completeness, soundness, welfare, peace” (Brown-Driver-

Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon)

Greek: eijrhvnh in the NT: “one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again.”(Strong’s Greek Dictionary)

23

If the mind which was also in Christ Jesus be in you, you will practice the lessons of Christ, and

because you appreciate his great mercy and love, you will be peacemakers. You will look to Jesus, and will draw nourishment from him, the living

Vine, and as a branch you will bear the same kind of fruit as does the parent stock. The enemy of all

righteousness will be ready to lead you into a course that will be the very opposite of that which the peacemaker should take. He who loves discord

and strife, will tempt you to act a part in connection with himself to stir up strife. . . .Which leader are you going to obey? (The Signs of the

Times, October 10, 1895 par. 3)

Page 24: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

24

How many souls have been lost because those who profess to be the followers of Christ have

been busy in carrying out the plans of Satan, and have thereby stirred up strife, and have

discouraged souls, and driven them on to Satan’s battle ground, when they might have helped them by words of kindness and consolation. Satan is the one who works up strife. He lost heaven because

he was filled with envy, jealousy, and evil surmising, because he desired to be equal with

God. It is important that we consider that the spirit we cherish now, the works that we now do, will

testify to our fitness or unfitness for the future life.

Page 25: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

25

We are now upon trial, and it is to be seen whether or not we will fulfill the Lord’s prayer, and do the will of God on earth as it is done in heaven. Those

who are carrying out Satan’s plans, and are hurting and bruising souls by their course of

action, prove that they are not the children of Christ. Whoever has the word of God, the

appointed instrument of salvation, abiding in him, will overcome the wicked one, and he will grow up into Christ in all things. But of how many may it be

said, “Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God”!

Page 26: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

26

How many when beset by temptation do wrong by not being peacemakers! Their weakness is found in the fact that they do not study the

Scriptures for the purpose of practicing them in their daily life. The Psalmist says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin

against thee;” but how many are destroyed for lack of knowledge! (The Signs of the Times,

October 10, 1895 par. 4)

Page 27: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

27

Christians are not self-sufficient, but consciously poor in spirit.

Christians are not self-satisfied, but mourn because of their spiritual state.

Christians are not self-important, not meek and lowely.

Christians are not self-righteous, but hungering and thirsting after the righteousness of Christ.

Negative Graces

Page 28: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

28

Having tasted of the mercy of God, they are merciful in their dealings with others.

Having received from the Spirit a spiritual nature, their eye is single to behold the glory of God.

Having entered into the peace that Christ made by the blood of His cross, they are now anxious to be used by Him in bringing others to the enjoyment of such peace.

Positive Graces

Page 29: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

29

Christ is “the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), and it is His mission to restore to earth

and heaven the peace that sin has broken. “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 5:1. Whoever consents to renounce sin and open his heart to the

love of Christ, becomes a partaker of this heavenly peace.

There is no other ground of peace than this. (Thoughts from the Mount of

Blessing, p. 27)

Page 30: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

30

Christ’s followers are sent to the world with the message of peace. Whoever, by the quiet, unconscious influence of a holy

life, shall reveal the love of Christ; whoever, by word or deed, shall lead another to renounce sin and yield his

heart to God, is a peacemaker. (Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, p. 28)

31

“Ye shall be witnesses unto Me.” [Acts 1:8.] These words of Jesus have lost none of their force. Our Saviour calls for faithful

witnesses in these days of religious formalism; but how few, even among the

professed ambassadors for Christ, are ready to give a faithful, personal testimony for their Master! (Gospel Workers, p. 273)

Page 32: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

32

We are ambassadors for Christ, and we are to live, not to save our reputation, but to

save perishing souls from perdition. (Special Testimonies, Series A, no. 7, p. 38)

Page 33: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

33

“and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of

peace.” (The Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Margin: Ready to go tell others about the gospel.

Page 34: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

34

Those who are filled with envy, jealousy, and evil surmising, and

who indulge in evil speaking, make it manifest that they are unfit for the kingdom of heaven because

they are not peacemakers. Through trial and test, it is proved that they are weighed in the balances and found wanting. (The Signs of the Times, October 10, 1895 par. 6)

Page 35: 1 The Mount Sinai of the New Testament. 2 15 Million killed, 20 million wounded Imperial War Museum Collection World War I

35

The spirit of peace is evidence of their connection with heaven. (Thoughts from the Mount of

Blessing, p. 28)

36

When we reach the standard that the Lord would have us reach,

worldlings will regard Seventh-day Adventists as odd, singular,

straight-laced extremists. “We are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.” (The

Review and Herald, January 9, 1894, par 10)
