We will meet new candidates of ‘Young Music Makers’ (YMM) in a few months.

In the meantime, how are our past YMMs doing?

YMM was founded nearly four decades ago. Many musicians featured in earlier

programmes, including tenor Warren Mok, percussionist Lung Heung-wing, and

pianist Colleen Lee, have become core players in the Hong Kong music scene

now. How about the younger generations of YMMs recruited from open application

since 2011?

We are glad to find that the modern YMMs are making good progress on their

musical paths. They have been active in music performances, a few of them have

started their careers as professional orchestra players. Some YMMs are receiving

further studies overseas to achieve higher artistic goals. A bright future is awaiting

them.

The YMM project has connected Radio 4 with many distinguished musicians when

they were just sprouting seeds. They took up challenge and grew up to be more

mature performers. We are honoured to have the process recorded in our studio.

To celebrate 90 years of broadcasting in Hong Kong, Radio 4 invites eight young

YMMs to perform before the microphone and camera on stage again. You are

welcome to join their recital at the Theatre in Hong Kong Heritage Museum on

2 December in the afternoon. Please complete the form on p. 13 and send it to

Radio 4 for free ticket.

Before going to the Theatre to see the music performance, you may take a look at the ‘90 Years of Public Service Broadcasting in Hong Kong’ exhibition on the first floor of the museum. Some RTHK’s invaluable photos and audio-visual archives will be displayed to showcase the development of Hong Kong’s broadcast industry.

昔日的「樂壇新秀」，不知近況怎樣？

「樂壇新秀」早於1980年播出。初期節目的主角，就

如男高音莫華倫、敲擊樂演奏家龍向榮和鋼琴家李嘉

齡，已成為今日香港樂壇的翹楚。至於第四台自2011年公開召募的四屆「樂壇新秀」又如何呢？

這些年輕新秀正繼續各自的音樂道路：有人負笈海

外，追求更高的藝術境界；有人參加國際賽事挑戰自

己，成績驕人；有人加入樂團，已經是專業演奏家。

「樂壇新秀」這項計劃讓我們看見香港許多優秀的音

樂種子。他們在成長路上不斷突破自己，當中的成果

都在香港電台錄音室留下記錄。在香港廣播九十週年

之際，第四台請來八位「樂壇新秀」在12月2日再聚舞

台，分享美樂。誠邀你來到沙田的香港文化博物館劇

Ocean Yip (second right) recently completed a performance tour with La Sax Saxophone Ensemble in Xiamen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai. 葉曉洋（右二）最近隨La Sax薩克管合奏團到廈門、廣州和珠海演出。

Kelvin Leung has started his performing career. You may have heard him play in concert halls, in Hong Kong Rugby Sevens event or on the tram! 梁承熹剛開展口琴事業，舞台並不限於音樂廳。你可能在香港國際七人欖球賽的活動，或者在電車上見過他！

Kris Ng was one of the soloists in Singfest’s concert ‘Remembrance of Things Past’ last summer. She is now studying in Amsterdam.吳卓欣在剛過去的夏天，以獨唱者的身份參與香港聲蜚合唱節的音樂會「說時依舊」。她現於荷蘭深造。

So Wai-lung won the Gold Prize in the Chiang Mai Ginastera International Music Festival last year while pursuing medical training in university. 現正主修醫學的蘇颹龍去年參加清邁希納斯特拿國際音樂節，獲得公開組金獎。

Gordon Lee, Champion of World Harmonica Festival 2017, was in Vienna a few months ago to perform Spivakovsky’s Harmonica Concerto. 李俊樂是2017年德國世界口琴節冠軍得主。他最近到訪維也納，演出史柏華歌夫斯基的口琴協奏曲。
