“We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New You!” ... It was great to see so many join us for our Christmas celebrations! A very special ‘Welcome home’ to all of our family members back with us for the Christmas vacation! Family! ... The religious Christmas Season extends until the feast of the Baptism of the Jesus, at the great age of 30, and the beginning of his public life, this year celebrated on Sunday (11). ... Today (28), is the feast of the Holy Family of Je-sus, Mary and Joseph. “Every effort to make society sensitive to the importance of the family is a great service to humanity!” Pope John Paul ll. ... This Sunday (4), is the feast of the Epiphany, which marks the arrival of the Three Kings at Beth-lehem, and the manifestation of Jesus as the Savior for all people. “Wise ones still seek Him!” ... The New Year is upon us! ‘Welcome’ 2015! ‘Thank you’ 2014! Join us for a special Family Mass on Thursday (1), at 9:00am. ... New Years Day, Thursday (1), is also the feast of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, and is designated as a World Day of Prayer for Peace. It is a holyday, but not of obligation. New beginnings! ... Our Altar Society, with Sandi Brenner and many more, decorated our church for Christmas, with help from Matt and Carol Williamson, Franco Agui-lar and Adan Altamirano, who also planned our ex-terior décor! Brilliant! ... John Derrico, and our Saint Vincent de Paul Soci-ety, with a lot of ‘little’ and ‘not so little’ helpers, distributed some 174 Christmas Baskets to needy families, serving over 870 people. ‘Thank you’ for your great generosity and for all you make possible. ... A lot of credit to Isaac Deken and our teenagers for their time, energy and commitment in decorat-ing and preparing our Christmas Baskets! Mighty! ... Julie Marner, our Music Director, coordinated the beautiful music at all of our Christmas celebra-tions, aided and abetted by our wonderful musi-cians and cantors! Thank you! ... Our young adults (age 18 - 39), from around the Diocese, will gather for a New Year celebration this Wednesday (31), beginning with Adoration at 9:00pm, Mass at 10:00pm, and a social from 11:00pm to 2:00am, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1629 Columbia Street, San Diego. For more info go to www.yamsd.org.

... With the encouragement and leadership of Jill Dodge and Matt Williamson, we have been experi-menting with ‘streaming’ the Sunday Mass live from Saint John. Watch for more details! Jill is one of our RCIA candidates. Great! ... Did you get your 2015 Church Calendar yet? If not, there may still be some available in the Parish Office. Keep up to date! ... Need to know more? Why not visit our parish website at www.saintjohnencinitas.org and our school website at saintjohnschool.com ... A warm welcome to John Corcoran, nephew of Father Brian, who is spending Christmas in Encini-tas and catching up on some sunshine! John lives and works in Dublin. Failte! ... Here at Saint John, we are blessed with Adora-tion of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 24 hours, day and night, except during Sunday Masses. Wow! ... The first Friday of each month, that’s this Fri-day (2), is a special day of prayer here at Saint John for vocations to the priesthood in San Diego. The 8:00am Mass is followed by Adoration and Bene-diction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Wow! ... How about those New Year resolutions? Try “I will actively support my parish family by using par-ish envelopes regularly!” ... How about considering ‘Online Giving’? It is very simple, secure and effective. Take a moment to visit our parish website, click on ‘Online Giving’ and away you go! ... 104 of our Seniors participated in our Luncheon on Thursday (18), with a delicious lunch prepared by Gloria and Cupid Catering, ably served by our 7th Grade students, and joyfully entertained by our 2nd Grade students! Team! ... Connie Troy named Saint John as a beneficiary in her Trust. We are deeply grateful and apprecia-tive of the $20,000 received. Her generosity has made our technology and digital upgrade possible! A great legacy! May she rest in peace. ... Through the efforts of Saint Bernadine of Siena, who died in 1444, devotion to the Holy Name of Je-sus was promoted through the inscription of the monogram of the Holy Name, IHS, and the addi-tion of the name Jesus to the Hail Mary. This Sat-urday (3) is the memorial of the Holy Name! ... “Let go of the past and go for the future. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined!” Happy New Year!
