1 INTRODUCTION

Dear Student

Welcome to the module “Software Project Management (INF3708)”. We are pleased to welcome you to this Software Project Management module and hope that you will find it both interesting and rewarding. We shall do our best to make your study of this module successful. You will be well on your way to success if you start studying early in the semester and resolve to do all the assignment(s) properly. In this module we will be studying Software Project Management using the prescribed book, from Chapter 1 to Chapter 9. You will receive NO hardcopy tutorial letters for INF3708 during the semester, apart from this short tutorial letter. All tutorial matter will be only available online and we will communicate essentially via myUnisa with you about teaching, learning and assessment.

Important information about the scheme of work, resources and assignments for this module will be electronically available throughout the semester and the aim is to interact with all students in an ongoing manner. We urge you to visit myUnisa regularly, explore the entire menu options available for the module, read your myLife emails and participate in discussions.

Please read Tutorial Letter 302 (SOCALL0/302/4/2015 – you will receive this in printed format) as it gives you an idea of generally important information when studying at a distance and within a particular College/School.

The assignments and assessment criteria as well as instructions on the preparation and submission of the assignments will be available online. You will also find all the information you need with regard to the prescribed study material and other resources and how to obtain it on myUnisa. Please study this information carefully and make sure that you obtain the prescribed material as soon as possible.

General and administrative information about this module can also be found online.

Right from the start we would like to point out that you must access any new study material as soon as possible, read them immediately and carefully, as they always contain important and, sometimes, urgent information.

Do not hesitate to contact your lecturer (on myUnisa, by email or by telephone) if you are experiencing problems with the content of this tutorial letter or any aspect of the module. We sincerely hope that you find this module, as well as your online learning experience interesting and rewarding and trust that you will complete the module successfully. Because this is a fully online module, you need to use myUnisa to study and complete the learning activities for this course. You need to visit the websites on myUnisa for INF3708 frequently. 2.1 Fully online module

Please note that this module is offered fully online.

All study material for this module will be available on myUnisa. It is thus very important that you register

on myUnisa and access the module site on a regular basis. You must be registered on myUnisa to be

able to access your learning material, submit your assignments, gain access to various learning

resources, “chat” to your lecturer or e-tutor (if applicable) and fellow students about your studies and the

challenges that you might encounter, and to participate in online discussion forums, Wiki and blogs.

Importantly, myUnisa contains the Learning Units tool from which you will only be able to access the

study material for this module if you have registered and have access to myUnisa.

myUnisa and myLife email account

You can quickly access resources and information at the university through the myUnisa learning

management system. myUnisa is Unisa’s online campus that will help you to communicate with your

lecturers, with other students and with the administrative departments of Unisa – all through the

computer and the internet.

To access the myUnisa website, visit the main Unisa website, http://www.unisa.ac.za, and then click on

the “Login to myUnisa” link on the right-hand side of the screen. This should transfer you to the myUnisa

website. A more direct route is via http://my.unisa.ac.za.

For more information on myUnisa please consult the brochure entitled My studies @ Unisa, which you

received with your study material. myUnisa is a web-based system for academic collaboration and study

related interaction. This system has been developed to supplement and enhance academic interaction

and improve communication between Unisa and its students as well as provide opportunity for

engagement among students.

Important note:

1) You must be a registered student for the current academic year to gain access to myUnisa

2) You must have already claimed your myLife email account – Use the Claim myLife link on

the myUnisa site if you haven’t yet accessed your myLife email.

The University of South Africa student email system (myLife), together with Microsoft, recognizes the

need for reliance, cost-effectiveness, and improved productivity, and therefore a compulsory myLife

student email account has been set up as the primary means of communication and will be considered

the official and only communication standard between students and the lecturer.

2.2 Printed materials to support the online module

Because we want you to be successful in this online module, we also provide you with some of the important study materials e.g., assignments in pdf format under “Additional Resources”. This will allow you to print and read the study materials, even if you are not online.

*“You will receive NO hardcopy tutorial letters for INF3708 during the semester, apart from this short
