Not-for-profit hospitals dominate
Hospitals in North Texas generated $13.7 billion in net patient revenue in 2011, down about 2 percent from theprevious year, according to researcher Allan Baumgarten and his Texas Health Market Review 2013.
The bottom line
The health care industry represents a
tremendous economic engine for this
region. Based on 2010 numbers,
hospitals are large employers
contributing more than
$12 billion and
180,000 jobs
to the economy.
Steve Love, president/CEO of the
Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council
The data show that the industry in
Dallas-Fort Worth is quite healthy
both on the provider hospital
side and the payer insurer
side. I think the
outlook
is good for both.
Allan Baumgarten, author of the
Texas Health Market Review 2013
The market positions of the regions
two biggest not-for-profit providers
Baylor Health Care System and
Texas Health Resources are even
stronger than they
show because of
their ventures with
doctor-owned
and for-profit
operations.
