BASIC OVERVIEW AND DIMENSIONS

Our 10 x 10 shed is a spacious and exquisite one, perfect for keeping your tools and furniture inside. It has a

total front width of 10 feet and 2 ¼ inches while the side width is 10 feet 1 inches. The total height of the shed

is 11 feet 8 ½ inches. The roof has a width of 11 feet and 6 ¾ inches. There is a spacious door in the front width

a height of 6 feet 7 ½ inches and a width of 4 feet and 6 inches. There is a mid-size window on the side with a

width of 3 feet and height of 3 feet. Note that the windows and doors should either be independently built or

bought from a manufacturer. If you are buying the window and door, follow the manufacturer’s instruction for

installing them perfectly in the place.

FOUNDATION AND FLOOR

First and the foremost, you need to build a solid and robust floor and foundation of the shed, as this will support the

entire structure of the shed. Use pressure treated 4 x 4 skids to build the foundation with a width of 10 feet and length

of 10 feet. Use ¾ inches thick tongue and groove plywood for the floor. Make sure that you place the skids and truss

accurately in place as shown in the figure. Any weak spots in the foundation can compromise the entire structure of

the shed.

2

NOTE

Buy per-designed joists and skids if you are new to building sheds. This way, you will reduce the chances of any complications in sizing and spacing.

WALL STRUCTURES

Once the floor and foundation is set up, the next step is to start building front and back walls. Note that the front

and back walls are comparatively easy to build with the front wall having space for the door. The total width of the

top area of the walls should be 4 feet while the bottom should be 10 feet. The difference on top is to accommodate

the roof. The total height of the walls should be 7 feet and 6 inches. Use wall studs, headers, cripples, plates and L

joints to assemble the parts together firmly.

3

NOTE

Add self-adhering flashing on the bottom edges of the windows before installing T1-11.

WALL STRUCTURES

The side walls need to be 9 feet and 3 ¾ inches in width at the bottom and 9 feet and 10 ¾ inches at the

top. The height of both the right and left walls should be 7 feet and 6 inches. The right wall will have space

for the 3 x 3 window. Use galvanized nails to attach the frames together. Install T1-11 siding on the bottom of

the window frame.

4

NOTE

Make sure the edges of T1-11 do not overlap each other as this will compromise the functioning and appearance of the T1-11.

ROOF SECTION

Once the walls are in place, the next task is to start building the roof. Note that the roof is the most

complex and difficult part of the entire shed to build. Therefore, get additional help or use pre-designed

rafters and sheathing for maximum durability. Start with building rafters of 6 feet and 1.5 inches in

dimension as shown in the figure. You will build the rafters and space them equally over a width of 10 feet

7 inches. Once the rafters are ready and in place, use ½ plywood for roof sheathing with drip edges. You

will need two sheets for both the sides of the rafters.

5

NOTE

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully while installing the shingles. Get additional help for the roofing task to safely get the job done.
