Year 7 (Dragon and Griffin) have recently been investigating the length of networks of sides of tessellating shapes. They have discovered which regular polygons tessellate and they have learned why the bee chooses a hexagon for the shape of its cell when it builds a honeycomb. Students have been able to relate this mini-project to their current IMYC theme of Structures where the Big Idea is: Formal

arrangements and relationships (structures) underpin or give organisation to complex issues. Here is a

selection of their work, but feel free to stop by the maths classroom to find out more!

A tessellating shape is one that fits together with no gaps.

Last Thursday, 29th May, the Year 5 classes held our Exit Point for their IPC unit ‘Space Explorers’. We knew that when we look up at our sky we will see the Sun, the Moon and the stars. We take them for granted. But why are they there? What do they do? How do they affect the Earth? Astronomy, like all sciences, is about asking questions. By becoming space explorers, we found out more about our solar system and the deeper mysteries of the Universe. We prepared a series of workshops to teach younger children about Space, and then invited the Year 1 classes to come and visit so that we could share our learning with them. The afternoon was a great success, and both the Year 5s and Year 1s learned a lot from each other.

The Eagle (Year 5) and the Owl (Reception) classes have been working together on a

Book Buddies scheme. Every week the Eagle class go to the Owl classroom to read with

the children. First of all the younger children read their book to their partner, before

choosing another book from the library that interests them to read together. Both classes

are really enjoying getting to know each other better and spending time exploring their

interests collaboratively.

All parents of children in Foundation, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 will be required to come and collect their children after lunch (12:20). You will then be free to take them home or to immediately join us for the International Day Fair with your child. In other words, all children in these classes must be accompanied by their parents for the International Day Fair.

Year 3 – Year 9 Students in all other year groups will join the International Day Fair at 12:30pm until 2:00pm. After the Fair, these students will all return to their classes for the remaining 50 minutes. They will finish at the regular scheduled time (2:50pm) and should be collected to go home at that point.

Principal’s Awards! Congratulations to all students who have been nominated for Principal’s Awards this week!

Principal’s Awards are presented at Friday assemblies and are awarded to students who clearly demonstrate one or more of our 8 ISK Personal Goals!
