Use the small paper on your desk to answer the following questions.

How many hours of sleep did you get last night?

How do we feel when we don’t get enough sleep?

How do we perform at school without sleep?

How do we get along with our friends?

What adults do you talk to and depend on every day?

What would happen if these adults didn’t get enough sleep?

difficulty waking up in the morning

inability to concentrate

falling asleep during classes

feelings of moodiness and even depression

Take this time to write what you think are benefits of a good nights sleep.

Now, write what happens if you don’t get enough sleep.

Turn off electronics Keep a sleep routine Expect a good nights sleep, stress can

trigger insomnia Avoid Drugs and Alcohol

Drugs and alcohol disrupt sleep, increasing a person's chance of waking up in the middle of the night.

Exercise! Physical activity can decrease stress and help

people feel more relaxed. Just don't work out too close to bedtime because exercise can wake you up before it slows you down.

Having enough sleeps impacts everything from a person's ability to pay attention in class to his or her mood.

Damages teens ability to do their best in athletics

Makes making decisions very challenging

Case Study:

Emotional troubles

Depression

Helpless feeling

Anger

Irritability

Most teens need about 8½ to more than 9 hours of sleep each night.

Sleep helps keep us physically healthy, too, by slowing our body's systems enough to re-energize us after everyday activities.
