From $ $9,141.00 PER PERSON SHARINGPrice excludes International and Regional airfares

DURATION : 11 DAYS / 10 NIGHTSWHERE : KATAVI, RUAHA NATIONAL PARK, THE SELOUS

If you want off the beaten path you have come to the right place. Katavi is a remote park that is less frequently visited than other Tanzanian national parks.  Lakes Katavi and Chada  are a haven for myriad waterbirds, and they also support Tanzania’s densest concentrations of hippo and crocodile. Ruaha – The park boasts of her almost untouched and unexplored ecosystem, making visitors’ safari experience very unique.  Enjoy Game viewing by boat and safari vehicle in Selous to end your nomad adventure.

Day 1: ARUSHA – KATAVI

Early morning flight from Arusha via the Serengeti (dependent on schedule) and Tabora, for refuelling, and arrive in Katavi around mid-day.

Enjoy lunch and a siesta, then we’d suggest heading out for a late afternoon game drive to explore the area; stop for a sundowner on the way back returning to camp in time for dinner.

Day 2: KATAVI FLY CAMP

Early mornings in Katavi are hard to beat; get up early and head out of camp on a game drive across the plains to look for the big herds of buffalo or elephant that are often found there. Enjoy a bush breakfast before returning to the camp for lunch and a siesta.

Fly camping at Katavi is a must-do,  so how about spending a night camping under the stars further out in the wilds. Walk out to the camp, already set up and waiting with ice cold drinks around the fire.

Day 3: CHADA KATAVI

After a fully cooked breakfast and a short walk, head back to camp the slow way, stopping to look at game on the way.  Lunch and a well earned snooze before tea and a short early evening drive.

Day 4: CHADA KATAVI

Sometimes on safari it pays to lie-in.  Enjoy a cup of tea on the verandah of your tent and watch the birds, or a tentative bushbuck, or even a herd of elephant as they move through the camp on their daily business.  Spend the morning relaxing around the camp before a delicious lunch and then head out for a last walk or game drive before returning to camp for dinner under the stars.

Day 5: KATAVI – RUAHA

This morning after an early breakfast, board your scheduled flight southeast to the great Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is rich in big game and herds of over 100 elephant are seen regularly, in addition to the big cats and some more unusual antelope such as sable and roan.

After lunch in camp, head out on an exploratory drive in an open game viewing vehicle, pausing for a sundowner near an iconic Ruaha baobab tree.

Day 6: KIGELIA RUAHA

Kigelia a simply beautiful camp in the best wildlife area of the park.  Elephant are frequent visitors along with many bird species.  Walks between the giant baobabs and along the sand rivers in the area are always rewarding, especially if they end in a picnic!  One of the things we like most about Ruaha is that we seldom see another car or person.  We have this fantastic wild place almost all to ourselves.

Venture out after tea in search of predators on the prowl.  You might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the striking African wild dog.

Day 7: KIGELIA RUAHA

Rise with the sun to a cup of tea on your verandah before boarding the vehicle for a full day out and about.  Pause for a picnic lunch under a picturesque tree somewhere and simply revel in the peace of the African afternoon.

Return for a dinner under the stars in the sand river bed where you might hear the call of a leopard…

Day 8: SAND RIVERS SELOUS

Early drive to the airstrip to catch the flight over to the Selous in time for lunch.  Settle in then take a short sundowner boat trip up river before a candelit dinner in the main dining room, or around the pool.

Day 9: SAND RIVERS SELOUS

Head out in the cool of the early morning and take a walk along the sand river beds; have a cook-out breakfast en route.

After lunch, and a siesta or a swim, mosey out for a game drive in one of our open cars, perhaps pausing to get out of the car and sneak through the bush to see how close you can get to a herd of impala.  Sundowners at a local vantage point before heading back to camp, a hot shower and delicious meal by the river.

Day 10: SAND RIVERS SELOUS

Jump into the boat for a whizz up the river to Stiegler’s Gorge.  As the river narrows, find a sandbank on which to lay out a picnic breakfast and relax with a rod in the water.  This enchanting spot is so different from the rest of Selous – peaceful yet exciting.  As the day warms up, hop back in the boat for a gentle drift back down the river to the camp.  Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool and perhaps head out for a late drive to a picturesque sundowner spot.

Day 11: DEPART SELOUS – DAR

Lazy start with breakfast around the pool and maybe a swim, before your departure to the airstrip and onward flight.

You may leave Africa forever but Africa will never leave you.
