12. Wellness Activities

12.1 Stress induced disorders through traditional Indian practices Stress induced disorders through traditional Indian practices - obesity and diabetes using yoga and

meditation training program was organized during 01st July, 2018 to 30th January, 2019 by the

Department of Physiology for a batch of 50 students for a period of 6months and its effect on auditory

and Visual Reaction Time was studied. AV reaction time was recorded before and after meditation.

12.2 Fitness Workshop on “World Health Day”

A Workshop on fitness for doctors “HEALTHY DOCTOR- HEALTHY PATIENT” was organised by the

Department of General Medicine on 7th April, 2019. A trainee was called who directed the session. The

theme of World Health Day was Universal Health Coverage” and 48 faculty and students we actively

participated in this activity.

12.3 ROYISM Report

1st Day – 22nd MARCH 2018

The National conference on “Role of Yoga In Stress Management” was organized by

the Dept. of Physiology, D.Y.Patil Medical College, (Institution Deemed to be University)

Kolhapur from 22/03/2018 to 23/03/201831/01/2014 in the Auditorium hall of the college.

The response was good enough with 139 number of delegates attending the conference

from medical and non-medical fields . Eminent faculty in the field of Physiology, Yoga,

Medicine, Psychiatry, Gynecology & Ophthalmology were invited as speakers for the

conference. The entire conference was conducted under the observation of Central and

Local Maharashtra Medical Council observers, Dr. Ananda Machinate Kamat ,MMC

Observer Code –MMC/MAO-00479/2014 respectively.

The event began with the Technical session – The first lecture was presented by Dr. Brinda Venkatraman., Professor & HOD of Physiology ,HBTMC & Dr.

R.N.Cooper, Muncipal General Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra. on ‘Physiology of

Stress’. She presented in detail the physiological mechanisms responsible for stress &

different types of stresses.

It was followed by presentation on ‘Clinical Management of Stress ‘given by Dr P.B.Behere., Vice –Chancellor, Professor of Psychiatry, .D.Y.Patil Education Society (Deemed to be University), Kolhapur

The Inaugural function was than started. It began with Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Poojan and watering of the plant at the hands of dignitaries Hon’ble Chancellor of D Y Patil University and President of D Y Patil Education Society Dr. Sanjay D Patil, Chief Guest DR Dhananjay Gunde , Director of GJG Yoga Academy Kolhapur, DR B C Harinath Founder Director, JBTDRC &Arogyadham, MGIMS Sevagram, Wardha.Chairman ,SBC Health Research Foundation ,SBC Arogya Vihar ,Yerpedu (Chitoor Dist, AP.).

The function was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chancellor of, D.Y.Patil University, Kolhapur, Dr. Sanjay D. Patil, Hon’ble Vice-chancellor, Dr. P B Behere ,, Pro Vice- chancellor Dr Shimpa Sharma Dean Dr. R. K. Sharma

,Registrar Dr. V. V. Bhosale ,Vice Principal Dr Asha Patil, executive Director DR A K Gupta , Deputy registrar ,Associate Deans ,Heads of the departments and faculty members from different departments. Welcome speech was given by convener of the conference & HOD of department of Physiology Dr Mrs Padmaja R Desai. After the chief guest’s inaugural address ,the Proceedings of the programme in the form of CD was released at this ceremony. Vote of thanks of inaugural function was delivered by organizing secretary Professor Dr Sunita M Tiwale.

The next talk began after the inaugural function by DR Dhananjay Gunde Sir on “ Introduction to Yoga” – It was an outstanding introduction done by such a senior most person doing ample of work in yoga. Dr Gunde sir has conducted over 900 yoga workshops . He highlighted the need of yoga in todays stressful life.It was very much appreciated by the delegates.

After this Dr Ramanujan Odeyar delivered a talk on ‘ Role of Yoga in Backache’.He also demonstrated different types os asanas related to back ache. The presentation was appreciated by the delegates.

Next presentation was by Dr Sandeep Rai, Unit Head & Professor Dept of Medicine, MGM institute of Health sciences ,Navi Mumbai on “ Sahaja Yoga for reduction of stress and Positive health (scientific presentation)” . He explained how the sahaja yoga helps in relieving the stress. This was followed by the demonstration of Sahaja yoga meditation technique by Dr Madhur Rai ,Principal investigator MGM SahajaYoga Research And Health Centre,Navi Mumbai.She demonstrated the technique of meditation and hands on demonstration was given. This was followed by lunch break .

Post lunch session was started by Dr Shimpa Sharma madam Pro Vice- Chancellor of D.Y Patil university Kolhapur on “ Clinical Face of Stress”. She elaborated on clinical manifestations of stress . she gave an excellent presentation with clinical case. Topic was then open for interaction.–

This session was followed by “Health benefits of Laughter” by Dr. Sudhir Bhave Professor of Psychiatry ,N K P Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center, Nagpur,Maharashtra. He explained how laughter acts and is beneficial to our body.

After this e- poster presentation sessions were conducted at two different halls. one for the PG students and other for the staff. Two judges were appointed for each category and they were given the evaluation criteria . Best three poster were identified based on the criteria for award. The last talk of day 1 was delievered by . Dr.B.C.Harinath Honorary Prof. of Biochemistry, MGIMS Sevagram, Wardha, Founder Director,

JBTDRC & Arogyadham, MGIMS Sevagram, Wardha.Chairman ,SBC Health Research Foundation ,SBC Arogya Vihar ,Yerpedu (Chitoor Dist, AP.). The topic for his talk was “Pranopasana Meditation & Mindfulness for stress reduction & Promotion of positive mental health”. This concluded the session for day 1.

2nd Day -23rd March– 2018

The second day began with lecture session by Dr. Satish Mahajan , Professor & HOD Medicine, Rural Medical College Loni, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra on “Yoga in Hypertension . His talk revealed the important role of yogic asanas in reducing hypertension.

The next lecture was on “Yoga and School Health” by Dr. N.M. Patil Professor & Head Department of Psychiatry, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Belgaum,Karnataka.He gave the details of yoga in school mental health and behaviour of children.

After this was the talk by Dr. Rakesh Sharma , Dean & Professor (Obst&Gyn), D.Y.Patil Medical College, Kolhapur on “Role of Yoga in Pregnancy induced hypertension ”.He highlighted the importance of yoga in helping normal delivery to occur and giving birth to a healthy baby.

This was followed by Yogic asanas in Stress by Dr.MuktaBidikar Assistant Professor of Physiology HBTMC & Dr. R.N.CooperMuncipal General Hospital, Mumbai.

After this the delegates were taken to another big auditorium were hands on demonstration of asanas was done by Dr sanjay Baraskar Ph.D. (Yoga Philosophy), YIC .It was a wonderful session were all the delegates performed different types of asanas with Dr Sanjay Baraskar for more than one hour.They

liked this session very much and interacted with him . This was followed by Lunch Break

1ST lecture in post lunch session was given by Dr.KshirodKumar Mishra, Professor & HOD of Psychiatry, MGIMS,Sevagram , Wardha, Maharashtraon on “ Effect of Pranayama in Stress Management”.He explained the actions of pranayama in relieving the stress.

In the next session three prizes in each category of P.G. & Staff for e-Poster were awarded by the hands of Vice Chancellor DR P B Behere and Dean DR R K Sarma.

This was followed by Panel Discussion. The panelists gave their remark on e-posters and about the topics covered in the conference. There was interaction with the delegates.

The two day national conference concluded with valedictory function.

12.4 Gram Swachhata, Ghotawade

Department of Community Medicine had organized Gram Swacchata Abhiyan

at village Ghotawade, Tal.- Radhanagari on Friday 19/10/2018. Faculty members –

04 and students – 31 were actively participated in the activity. Good response from

villagers at village Ghotawade.

12.5 Guest Lecture by Swami A Guest lecture of Swami Vipradevji from Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, Uttarakhand on

Awareness of Yoga among Youth was organised by the Department of Microbiology on Tuesday,

25th June, 2019 at Auditorium, Medical College, Kolhapur. The Guest was welcomed by

Dr.Mrs.R.A.Chougale, Prof. & Head, Dept. of Microbiology. This program was attended by 141

students and faculty.

12.6 Effect of Cell phone on Ear An Interactive Talk of Dr.Nilam Sathe, Associate Professor, Dept. of ENT, G.S.Medical College,

Mumbai was organised by Department of Otorhinolaryngology on 20th June, 2018 at the

Auditorium, Dr.D.Y.Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Kolhapur. Dr.Sathe was

felicited by Dr.Sanjay D. Patil, Hon’ble Chancellor and Prof. P.B.Behere, Hon’ble Vice-

Chancellor chaired this program. This activity was attended by 183 students and faculty.

12.7 Nutrition for Medicos A guest lecture of Dr. Meenal Mulherkar on Nutrition in Medicos was organized on 07th December.

2018 by the Department of Obstestrics & Genecology at Auditorium of Dr.D.Y.Patil Medical

College Hospital & Research Institute, Kolhapur. Dr. Meenal Mulherkar is well known Nutritionist

in kolhapur serving as a consulting nutritionist in Mahaveer College and university in kolhapur.

She enlightened us that to eat healthy is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art. She was

welcomed by the department and was felicitated by Dr Vasudha Sawant, Professor & Head, for

her valuable time and knowledge. She guided the audience how to cope up with our profession

being doctors which requires full dedication and mental and physical readiness 24*7 neglecting

our diet and meals on regular basis making us nutritionally poor.

12.8 Wellness “Cancer Awareness and Prevention” Dr. Prashant Lad

A Guest Lecture of Dr.Prashant Lad, Oncologist on “Cancer Awareness and Prevention” was

organised by Department of Physiology on 12th February, 2019 at Auditorium, D.Y.Patil Medical

College, Kolhapur. Dr.Mrs.P.R.Desai, Professor & Head welcomed and introduced the Guest. This

event was attended by 147 students and faculty.

12.9 stress and time mangament Report on the guest lecture by Mr. Prasanna Karmarkar on stress and time management conducted on

15.12.2018

For the benefit of students who are in the formative years of Medical College a guest

lecture was conducted on stress and time management by Mr. Prasanna Karmarkar who

is a Member of UGC- Career & Counseling Cell, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

It was organized by Dr. N. T. Venugopal, Associate Dean, Student Affairs under the

banner of IQAC and was conducted in Medical College Auditorium. Beneficiaries were I

MBBS students numbering 145. It was conducted from 2 pm onwards. The program was

anchored by Dr. Arcahana Patil, Lecture, Department of Biochemistry. Students were

engrossed in this captive lecture for 2 hours. They had active participation in the lecture

and they got doubts cleared by the speaker. Many anecdotes, nuances and tips required

for the time and stress management were lucidly explained by the speaker. Many

students volunteered to come to the dias and share their experiences.

The guest lecture got over at 04.30 pm. Dr. N.T. Venugopal shared his views and again

students were very interactive. As a token of gratitude a sapling and certificate, regular

remuneration was given to the distinguished speaker. Vote of thanks was proposed by

Dr. Arcahana.

The programme rounded off with having a cup of tea with the speaker in the media room.

12.10 Wellness - Joy of running A Guest Lecture of Alumni Dr. Vishal Khatry on “Joy of Running” was jointly organised by

Alumni Association and Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 25th December, 2018 at Auditorium,

Medical College. Dr.Khatry briefeds about role of running in body fitness and also shared his

experiences of different marathowns participated by him. Approximately, 148 students and faculty

benefitted by thie lecture.

12.11 Celebration of World Yoga Day Celebration of World Yoga Day on 21st June 2018

The 4th World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2018, organized by University NSS students

at Auditorium. In the presence of Dr. Vishwanath Bhosale, Registrar,Dr. R. K. Sharma Dean, Prof. Mrs.

Suchitrarani Rathod, Principal, Mr. R. S. Powar, NSS Coordinator.

The programme started with the introduction by Dr. Deepak Deshkar and Mr. Vilas Nikam, Yoga

Trainer, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Kolhapur had demonstrated of various asnas with explanation and

conducted Yoga session.
