ITI’s High Tech Voting Guide is one of only two

business group ratings to be published in the

Almanac of American Politics. The guide serves as

both a report card for Members of Congress on key

tech issues, and as a reflection of ITI’s legislative

priorities during the 110th Congress (2007-2008).

Today, ITI continues to represent diverse companies

on the cutting edge of technology, and its mission

today is identical to that of its founders in 1916 –

to shape policy issues that create an environment

in which its companies can thrive and compete

globally. Specifically, ITI supports policies that:

• Enhance the global competitiveness of the US tech industry

• Reduce barriers that stifle innovation

• Create access to new and emerging markets

• Promote e-commerce expansion

• Protect consumer choice

• Support investment in present and future generations of the US workforce

The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI)

was founded in 1916 as the National Association

of Office Appliance Manufacturers. The Association

underwent several reorganizations in response to

the new challenges facing the rapidly changing

and expanding US tech industry up through 1973,

when it became known as the Computer Business

Equipment Manufacturers Association (CBEMA).

In 1994, CBEMA underwent another reorganization,

and was re-named the Information Technology

Industry Council. The new name, which ITI retains

today, better reflects the dynamic IT industry as

it currently exists – consisting of manufacturers

and suppliers of computers, telecommunications,

business equipment, software, and IT services.
