GENERAL

1. THE STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED TO BE STABLE AND SELF SUPPORTING AT THE COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION.TEMPORARY BRACES, GUYS, TIE-DOWNS, SHORING, ETC. DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITYOF THE CONTRACTOR.

2. SEE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS ANDDETAILS.

3. STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS WHERE SECTIONS OR DETAILS ARE CUT SHALL ALSO APPLY TO COMPARABLE SIMILARLOCATIONS ELSEWHERE ON THE PLANS REGARDLESS IF THE SECTION MARK IS NOT INDICATED. DETAILS SHOWNAPPLY TO ALL SIMILAR CONDITIONS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. DO NOT SCALE DRAWINGS.

4. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS, DIMENSIONS, ELEVATIONS, QUANTITIES, ETC., IN THEFIELD PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF ANY NEW CONSTRUCTION. NOTIFY ENGINEER/ARCHITECT OF ANYDISCREPANCIES FOUND IMMEDIATELY.

THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONSULT WITH THE SUBCONTRACTORS ANDSUPPLIERS TO OBTAIN THE REQUIREMENTS FOR EQUIPMENT AND/OR MATERIALS THAT WILL BE PROVIDED FORTHE PROJECT. VARIATIONS TO THE FRAMING INDICATED ON THE STRUCTURAL DOCUMENTS SHALL BECOORDINATED AND INSTALLED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, AFTER REVIEW AND APPROVAL BY THE STRUCTURALENGINEER IS OBTAINED.

A) 'THE 2003 INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE' WITH THE '2005 STATE OF CONNECTICUT SUPPLEMENT'. AND THE'2009, 2011 AND 2013 STATE OF CONNECTICUT AMENDMENT'.

B) 'MINIMUM DESIGN LOADS FOR BUILDING AND OTHER STRUCTURES', ASCE/SEI 7-02.

C) 'SPECIFICATION FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL BUILDINGS-ALLOWABLE STRESS DESIGN AND PLASTIC DESIGN', AISC1989, WITH SUPPLEMENT NO.1, 2001.

STRUCTURAL STEEL

1. ALL STRUCTURAL STEEL SHALL BE FABRICATED AND ERECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REFERENCEDEDITION OF THE AISC 'SPECIFICATION FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL BUILDINGS'.

2. W SHAPES, STRUCTURAL STEEL SECTIONS SHALL BE ASTM A 992, Fy=50 KSI UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

3. ROLLED CHANNELS, ANGLES, PLATES AND SHAPES SHALL BE ASTM A 36, Fy=36 KSI UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED

4. ALL WELDING ELECTRODES SHALL BE E70XX UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

5. ALL BOLTS, NUTS AND WASHERS SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF ASTM A 325 OR ASTM A 490.

6. ALL WELDING SHALL BE BY CERTIFIED WELDERS AND SHALL CONFORM TO AWS 'CODE OF ARC AND GASWELDING IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION', LATEST EDITION.

7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ERECTION PROCEDURES AND SEQUENCES INCLUDINGTEMPORARY BRACING AND SHORING.

8. THERE SHALL BE NO FIELD CUTTING OF STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS WITHOUT THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THEENGINEER.

9. ANY ADDITIONAL STEEL REQUIRED BY THE CONTRACTOR FOR ERECTION PURPOSES AND SITE ACCESS ORMATERIALS FOR STOCKPILING STEEL SHALL BE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. ALL SUCH ADDITIONALSTEEL SHALL BE REMOVED BY THE CONTRACTOR UNLESS APPROVED BY THE OWNER IN WRITING.

10. FABRICATE AND ERECT ALL BEAMS WITH CAMBER UP.

11. BEAM END CONNECTIONS SHALL BE SELECTED AND DETAILED FOR 1.25 TIMES THE REACTIONS INDICATED. AMINIMUM CONNECTION CAPACITY OF 6 KIPS SHALL BE PROVIDED. REACTIONS GOVERNED BY THE 6K MINIMUMARE DESIGNATED AS "<WXXxXX>" ON PLAN, AND NEED NOT BE INCREASED BY THE FACTOR OF 1.25.

12. ALL FIELD WELDS SHALL BE SCRAPED AND CLEANED FREE OF SLAG BY WELDER/ERECTOR TO ENABLE VISUALWELD INSPECTION.

13. FIELD WELDING TO GALVANIZED STEEL: PRIOR TO FIELD WELDING CONNECTIONS, ZINC COATING AT ALL WELDCONNECTION AREAS SHALL BE REMOVED BY BURNING WITH OXYGEN FUEL GAS TORCH OR GRINDING TO BARESTEEL. APPLY A MINIMUM OF TWO COATS OF ZINC-RICH PAINT AFTER CLEANING COMPLETED WELD.

COATING OF STRUCTURAL STEEL

1. ALL DUNNAGE STEEL SURFACES SHALL BE PREPPED PER THE SOCIETY FOR PROTECTIVE COATINGS(SSPC) STANDARD SSPC-WJ2 JOINT SURFACE PREPARATION STANDARD (THROUGH CLEANING) FOLLOWEDBY SSPC-SP3 ON AREAS OF CORROSION.

2. CONTRACTOR TO SUBMIT FOR REVIEW PROPOSED ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MEASURES TO BETAKEN DURING SURFACE PREPARATION AND COATING OF STRUCTURAL STEEL IN THE FIELD. THEDETAILED SUBMISSION SHALL INCLUDE A DESCRIPTION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MEASURESTO BE UNDERTAKEN SO AS TO ENSURE COMPLETE CONTAINMENT, COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF SPENTBLASTING ABRASIVES, REMOVED PAINT, ALL OTHER DEBRIS PRODUCTS FROM SURFACE PREPARATION ASWELL AS NEW COATING SYSTEM OVER SPRAY. THE DETAILED SUBMISSION SHALL ALSO INCLUDE ADETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED METHODS AND PROCEDURES, SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS,EQUIPMENT, DETAILS OF PROPOSED ENCLOSURE SYSTEMS AND ALL OTHER APPLICABLE DETAILSRELATING TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MEASURES DURING SURFACE PREPARATION AND COATING.

3. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A WRITTEN GUARANTEE FROM THE SUPPLIER OF THE COATING SYSTEMSTATING THAT THE PRODUCT WILL PERFORM SATISFACTORILY FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF FIVE (5) YEARSFROM THE COMPLETION DATE, PROVIDED THAT BOTH THE SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OFTHE PAINT HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS.THE SUPPLIER SHALL STATE THAT THEY HAVE REVIEWED THIS SPECIFICATION AND THE SURFACEPREPARATION AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND FIND THEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIRRECOMMENDATIONS. THE SUPPLIER SHALL GUARANTEE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE COATING, INCLUDINGANY SURFACE PREPARATION, TOUCH-UPS, AND FINAL OVERCOATS, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER IN THEEVENT THAT THE COATING SYSTEM DOES NOT PERFORM SATISFACTORILY OVER THE FIVE (5) YEARGUARANTEED TIME PERIOD.

4. IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURFACE PREPERATION APPLY PRIMER ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER’SINSTRUCTIONS AND AT A RATE OF 4-6 MILS DFT IN RED COLOR. PRIMER FOR STEEL SHALL BE A MODIFIEDPOLYAMIDOAMINE EPOXY COATING.

5. AFTER FIRST COAT HAS CURED APPLY SECOND COAT OF PRIMER AT AT RATE OF 4-6 MILS DFT IN GREYCOLOR.

6. PROVIDE FINISH COAT OF AN ALIPHATIC ACRYLIC POLYURETHANE COATING AT A RATE OF 2-3 MILS DFT INCOLOR OF OWNER'S CHOOSING.

GENERAL

1. THE PROJECT DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE BASED ON THE CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS INSTITUTE(CSI) DOCUMENTATION FORMAT. SPECIFICATION AND DRAWING CONTENTS ARE ARRANGED BY TOPIC ANDCATEGORY AND ARE NOT INTENDED TO AWARD DIVISION OF WORK.

2. THE INTENT OF THESE DOCUMENTS IS FOR THE MEP TRADES TO FURNISH AND INSTALL COMPLETE MECHANICALAND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. THE SPECIFIED FIRE PROTECTION, PLUMBING, HVAC, ELECTRICAL AND SPECIALSYSTEMS SHALL BE COMPLETE IN ALL RESPECTS; OPERATIONAL, TESTED, ADJUSTED, CALIBRATED, APPROVED BYTHE AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION AND READY FOR BENEFICIAL USE BY THE OWNER.

3. THE TRADES SHALL OBTAIN AND REVIEW ALL CONTRACT DOCUMENTS BEFORE SUBMITTING A BID. INFORMATIONIS PROVIDED ON THE VARIOUS DRAWINGS, SCHEDULES, SPECIFICATIONS AND ALL OF THE VARIOUS DOCUMENTS INTHE BIDDING PACKAGE. THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ARE COMPLIMENTARY AND FORM A TOTAL PROJECT DESIGNAND INFORMATION SOURCE FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES.

4. THE DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF SYSTEMS AND WORKINCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT. COORDINATE LOCATIONS OF EQUIPMENT WITH OTHER TRADES BEFORE AND DURINGCONSTRUCTION. ANY MODIFICATION TO THE EQUIPMENT LAYOUT, REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION, IS TO BEPERFORMED UNDER THE CONTRACT AGREEMENT, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.

5. PERFORM ALL WORK IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS, APPLICABLE CODES, ORDINANCES AND THEREGULATORY AGENCIES HAVING JURISDICTION. THE SPECIFICATIONS MAY EXCEED THE REQUIREMENTS OF THECODE, IN WHICH CASE, THE SPECIFICATION MUST BE FOLLOWED.

6. INSTALL ALL EQUIPMENT IN ACCESSIBLE LOCATIONS. WHERE EQUIPMENT MUST BE INSTALLED ABOVE ANINACCESSIBLE CEILING OR BEHIND A WALL, AN APPROPRIATE ACCESS DOOR SHALL BE PROVIDED AND THELOCATION SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE ENGINEER/OWNER.

7. WHERE A CONFLICT OCCURS BETWEEN THE DOCUMENTS, IT SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THEENGINEER. CARRY AS PART OF THE BID THE LARGER QUANTITY AND/OR MORE EXPENSIVE ITEM(S).

8. BEFORE INSTALLATION, COORDINATE THE WORK WITH OWNER-FURNISHED EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING REQUIREDSERVICE CONNECTIONS, FACTORY START UPS AND INSTALLATION OF FIELD DEVICES.

9. PROVIDE THE REQUIRED/SPECIFIED SLEEVES AND SEALS FOR PIPES OR CONDUIT PENETRATING ROOF PERSPECIFICATIONS.

10. SEISMICALLY SUPPORT THE EQUPMENT AS REQUIRED BY CODE, THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, AND/ORAS SPECIFIED. SUBMIT ENGINEERED INSTALLATION DETAILS PER THE SPECIFICATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR'SSEISMIC ENGINEER SHALL REVIEW THE INSTALLATION AND PROVIDE A REPORT ON THE FINDINGS.

11. PROVIDE MEP COORDINATION DRAWINGS AS REQUIRED BY THE SPECIFICATIONS.

12. ENCLOSED CONTROLLERS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR PROVIDING THE EQUIPMENT REQUIRINGAN ENCLOSED CONTROLLER. REQUIREMENTS ARE SPECIFIED UNDER DIVISION 23: "ENCLOSED CONTROLLERS".MOTOR EFFICIENCIES SHALL BE AS INDICATED IN THE SPECIFICATIONS.

13. PROVIDE PIPING, DUCTWORK, CONDUIT AND ALL OTHER ACCESSORIES AS REQUIRED FOR PROPER ANDPROFESSIONAL SYSTEMS INSTALLATION.

14. TEST AND BALANCE COOLING TOWER SYSTEMS. PROVIDE ADDITIONAL TESTS AS REQUIRED BY THESPECIFICATIONS. PROVIDE PRE-DEMOLITION TESTING ON COOLING TOWER FOR EXISTING CONDENSER WATERFLOW RATE (GPM).

15. DO NOT INSTALL PIPING OVER ELECTRICAL PANELS, TRANSFORMERS, SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, ELEVATORMACHINE ROOMS OR SHAFTS.

16. PROVIDE ADDITIONAL TRANSITIONS AND OFFSETS IN ALL PIPING OR CONDUIT FOR COORDINATION WITHBUILDING STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION.

17. NO MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPONENTS MAY BE SUPPORTED FROM STRUCTURAL BRACEDFRAMES.

RENOVATION

1. THIS PROJECT INVOLVES THE ADDITION TO AN EXISTING FACILITY; BEFORE SUBMITTING THE BID, CONTRACTORS SHALLVISIT THE SITE AND BECOME THOROUGHLY FAMILIAR WITH THE EXISTING CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE PROJECT IS TOBE COMPLETED.

2. CONTRACTORS SHALL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSUMPTIONS, OMISSIONS OR ERRORS MADE AS A RESULT OFFAILURE TO BECOME FULLY FAMILIAR WITH THE EXISTING CONDITIONS.

1. FIRST STAGE: DAMPERS OPEN AND SPRAY PUMP TURNS ON, FANS REMAIN OFF.2. SECOND STAGE: UPON CONTINUED RISE IN LOOP TEMPERATURE, ENABLE FANS ON AND GRADUALLY RAMP UP IN UNISON AS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN LOOP TEMPERATURE OF MAX 90ºF (ADJ).3. INVERSELY OPERATE STAGES ABOVE AS LOOP TEMPERATURE DECREASES

2. THE INTENT OF THESE DOCUMENTS IS FOR THE MEP TRADES TO FURNISH AND INSTALL COMPLETEMECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. THE SPECIFIED FIRE PROTECTION, PLUMBING, HVAC, ELECTRICAL ANDSPECIAL SYSTEMS SHALL BE COMPLETE IN ALL RESPECTS; OPERATIONAL, TESTED, ADJUSTED, CALIBRATED,APPROVED BY THE AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION AND READY FOR BENEFICIAL USE BY THE OWNER.

3. UTILIZING THE DESIGN INTENT MODEL: THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ARE SOLELY A TWO DIMENSIONAL SET OFDOCUMENTS. IF UTILIZED, THE DESIGN INTENT MODEL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO A LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENTLOD 200 AND LOD 300 MODEL CONTENT REQUIREMENTS AS DEFINED BY AIA G-202-2013. THE DESIGN INTENTMODEL IS A THREE DIMENSIONAL TOOL UTILIZED TO CREATE A TWO DIMENSIONAL CONTRACT DOCUMENT. ATWO DIMENSIONAL CONTRACT DOCUMENT REQUIRES, FOR REASON OF CLARITY AND OTHERWISE, THATCOMPONENTS OF THE DESIGN NOT BE MODELED IN THREE DIMENSIONS AND/OR THAT THE MODEL BE FORMEDIN A WAY THAT CONSTRUCTION MEANS AND METHODS WILL DICTATE OTHER WAYS OF PERFORMING THEINSTALLATION. THE DESIGN INTENT MODEL IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE CONTRACTORS’ COORDINATIONPROCESS AS OUTLINED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS; FULL COORDINATION REMAINS THE RESPONSIBILITYOF THIS CONTRACTOR AND THEIR SUB-CONTRACTORS. THE CONTENTS OF THE MODEL ARE NOT TO BE USEDFOR THE BASIS OF DETAILED COST ESTIMATING, COORDINATING EQUIPMENT LOCATIONS AND SYSTEMSROUTING WITH ALL OTHER TRADES. THE CONTRACTOR MAY USE THE DESIGN INTENT MODEL TO HELPESTABLISH THE BACKGROUNDS AND/OR STARTING POINT FOR THE COORDINATION DRAWINGS BASED ON THESTIPULATIONS OF THE RELEASE FORM THAT CAN BE PROVIDED IF AND WHEN THE MODEL IS REQUESTED.

4. CREATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION COORDINATION MODEL: CREATE A CONSTRUCTION COORDINATION MODEL.THE CONSTRUCTION COORDINATION MODEL SHALL BE DEVELOPED TO A MINIMUM LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT LOD400 MODEL CONTENT REQUIREMENTS AS DEFINED BY AIA G-202-2013. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE FULLYRESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING AND MAINTAINING A CONSTRUCTION COORDINATION MODEL AND COORDINATIONDRAWINGS AS REQUIRED FOR DETAILED CONSTRUCTION INSTALLATION AND COORDINATION WITH ALL OTHERTRADES.

5. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE DESIGN INTENT MODEL AND THE CONSTRUCTION COORDINATION MODEL AND/ORACTUAL INSTALLATION LOCATION, MEANS AND METHODS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS CONTRACT AND SHALL NOTCONSTITUTE A CHANGE ORDER ON THE BASIS OF DRAWING, ENGINEERING AND/OR COORDINATION TIME.

6. THE TRADES SHALL OBTAIN AND REVIEW ALL CONTRACT DOCUMENTS BEFORE SUBMITTING A BID. INFORMATIONIS PROVIDED ON THE VARIOUS DRAWINGS, SCHEDULES, SPECIFICATIONS AND ALL OF THE VARIOUS DOCUMENTSIN THE BIDDING PACKAGE. THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ARE COMPLEMENTARY AND FORM A TOTAL PROJECTDESIGN AND INFORMATION SOURCE FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES.

7. THE DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF SYSTEMS AND WORKINCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT. COORDINATE LOCATIONS OF EQUIPMENT WITH OTHER TRADES BEFORE ANDDURING CONSTRUCTION. ANY MODIFICATION TO THE EQUIPMENT LAYOUT, REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION, IS TOBE PERFORMED UNDER THE CONTRACT AGREEMENT, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.

8. REFER TO THE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR THE EXACT LOCATION AND MOUNTING HEIGHTS OF VARIOUSEQUIPMENT. ALL SUCH EQUIPMENT AND EQUIPMENT COLORS AND FINISHES SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THEARCHITECT. MOUNTING HEIGHTS SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE ARCHITECT.

9. PERFORM ALL WORK IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS, APPLICABLE CODES, ORDINANCES AND THEREGULATORY AGENCIES HAVING JURISDICTION. THE SPECIFICATIONS MAY EXCEED THE REQUIREMENTS OFTHE CODE, IN WHICH CASE, THE SPECIFICATION MUST BE FOLLOWED.

10. INSTALL ALL EQUIPMENT IN ACCESSIBLE LOCATIONS. WHERE EQUIPMENT MUST BE INSTALLED ABOVE ANINACCESSIBLE CEILING OR BEHIND A WALL, AN APPROPRIATE ACCESS DOOR SHALL BE PROVIDED AND THELOCATION SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE ARCHITECT.

11. COORDINATE PIPING AND CONDUITS ENTERING OR LEAVING THE BUILDING WITH THE SITE CONTRACTOR(S)BEFORE INSTALLATION. COORDINATE INVERTS WITH THE STRUCTURE AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TOINSTALLATION.

12. WHERE A CONFLICT OCCURS BETWEEN THE DOCUMENTS, IT SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THEARCHITECT. CARRY AS PART OF THE BID THE LARGER QUANTITY AND/OR MORE EXPENSIVE ITEM(S).

13. BEFORE INSTALLATION, COORDINATE THE WORK WITH OWNER-FURNISHED EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING REQUIREDSERVICE CONNECTIONS, FACTORY START UPS AND INSTALLATION OF FIELD DEVICES.

14. PROVIDE THE REQUIRED/SPECIFIED SLEEVES AND SEALS FOR PIPES OR CONDUIT PENETRATING INTERIOR ANDEXTERIOR WALLS OR FLOOR SLABS.
