Annual Work Report of SONSIK 15th EC

August 24-25, 2019, Hannam University, Dajeon City

As being an umbrella student organization of Nepalese students in

Korea SONSIK is running it activities for the betterment of our

members and Promote the relationship between Korea and Nepal

through various activities. From the time of its establishment in

2004, we lead the 15th EC team in 2018/19. our tenure started from

Sept. 3, 2018 and we handover to new 16th EC on 24 Aug. 2019 from

the 16th Annual General Meeting held at Hannam University, Dajeon,

South Korea. This report summarize the 15th EC activities as above

stated time frame.

In Sept. 2, 2018 15th AGM elected our team in leadership of

President Tulsi Poudel. We conducted 14 times EC meeting to do

various decisions regarding activities, action, managements and

many more. We started our work in a broader sense by appointing a

nine members advisory board, a cultural subcommittee in leadership

of Tonking Bastola, and university coordinator in 45 universities. We

prepared annual work plan and work accordingly, during this time

we develop some culture within our team like be on time, take

effective responsibility, speak with each other with same level of

respect like “Jee”, which makes all responsible and helps tenure to

run smoothly without any doubt and conflict.

Our four Vice-president lead their four different region to manage the

regional and central activities. To extends our hands to the Nepalese

community, to new students, to embassy we work accordingly. Our

interaction program with Nepalese community at Nepal house,

Dongdamon, South Korea reflects a good impression to the Nepalese

societies. Via this program we received suggestion for the effective

works and run accordingly.


We conducted two times meeting with Nepal Embassy and frequentletter exchange regarding Nepalese students issue and many more. Theorientation program held in four different region makes new studentsalert about the needed things, overview of life in Korea, Koreanculture, using transportation and other public services etc.During the Visit of Education Minister Hon. Girirajmani Pokhrel wesuggest some educational points and the situation of Nepalesestudents in Korea and action needed to be taken. The region 4organized the educational tour with the support of Korea NepalAssociation on 16th Dec. 2018 where 45 participant explored thethemed opportunities.The Youngnam University SONSIK unit held the interaction program onCancer status and challenges in Nepal with direct presence of Dr. PunyaKharbuja. Similarly the Facebook live program was done regardingcareer opportunities in Australia and challenges faced by NepaliStudents with key person Bhuwan Oli, who is the registered migrationagent since 2002.We extends our hands to the other university clubs and other Nepalesecommunities. To this we did teej, yoga and diabetes seminar programwith Wonkwang University Nepalese Students (WUNC), participatedand supported friendship game organized by KWU.To provide scholarship to the poor and marginalized population inNepal we conducted the Deusi vaila program and we are able to collectsome fund and later provided scholarship to the poor students in Kaskiand the deaf students in Pyuthan District. This program we startedfrom Nepal embassy as considering it our hone then visiting to thebusiness organization operated by Nepalese.Our president participated in NIIED annual meeting, meeting withother foreigner organization to extend our relationship. Which reflectsthe positive changes that leads participation of many foreigner in ourprogram. Later we became able to organize international researchseminar in association with other foreigner students association.


We bought some cultural dress so it is easy to perform our culturalactivities now. The participation of SONSIK in TOPI DIWAS programreflects our cultural promotion activities in Korea.We performed data collection program aiming to collect the exactstatus of Nepalese students in Korea regarding their Major study,Title of thesis, some selected publication and many more latermaking report and submit to different organization, Korea andNepal government to perform needed action based on theirknowledge and skills. Due to short period of time its not completedso hope next EC will complete it.The 7th Educational seminar conducted at Wonkwang Universitywhere first day the interaction program regarding the educationsystem and need for change according to the provincial status. Onnext day the scientific secession begin, where many presenterpresented their research and the listener are benefited with diverseknowledge.The 6th sports meet organized at Daegu, Korea, where manyuniversity club, free students, SONSIK team played a friendshipgame.On occasion of some guest visit in Korea we try to meet them andhave a interaction, suggest some needed things. In this journey wehad meeting with Professor Dr. Surya Raj Acharya and NSAT VC Dr.Sunil Babu Shrestha.We focused on publication like we successfully published Smarika, 2newsletter, 1 guidebook for foreigner living in Korea, interactionprogram and orientation program report, AGM report, educationalseminar preceding and report etc.The cultural festival, Gwangju tour, Yoga, Meditation and Templestay program organized in Gwangju city, where participientexperienced a new dimension of life.


Feeling the students problem is our we did some responsibilities liketo solve the Jeju Halla University students problem, to solvecompulsory presenting baby to Embassy, National Health Insurance,uploading degree equivalency process and required documents andmany more day to day problems.Before ending of our tenure we conducted a meeting where wepresented physically at Boryang, Dajeon City and discussed variousthings and in more detail about 16th AGM.Finally we organized 16th AGM and handover our responsibility to thenew team. During this tenure we appreciate all seen and unseenhands who helped directly and indirectly to make our tenuresuccessful.
