INTRODUCTION
International Business Machines Corporation (commonly referred to as IBM) is an American multinational technology and consulting corporation, with corporate headquarters in Armonk, New York. IBM manufactures and markets computer hardware, middleware and software and offers infrastructure, hosting and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology. It was founded by Charles Ranlett Flint in Endicott, New York. At present, its head offices are in Armonk, New York. It operates across 170 countries. GinniRometty serves as its Chairman, CEO and President. In 2014, it earned approximate revenue of US$ 92.793 billion and its operating income was US$ 19.996 billion. Its net income in the same year was US$ 12.023 billion and its total assets were worth US$ 117.53 billion. Its total equity was worth US$11.868 billion. It has 3,79,592 employees.
HISTORY
The company which became IBM was founded in 1896 as the Tabulating Machine Company by Herman Hollerith, in Broome County, New York, where it still maintains very limited operations. It was incorporated as Computing Tabulating Recording Cooperation on June 16, 1911, and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1916 by George Winthrop Fairchild. CTRs Canadian and South American subsidiary was named International Business Machines in 1917, and whole company took this name in 1924 when Thomas J. Watson took control of it.

IBM India Introduction IBM India Private Limited is the Indian subsidiary of IBM. It has facilities in Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Gurgaon , Noida, Chandigarh, Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. IBM is ranked 2nd in the list of top 10 multinational companies in India. Headquartered in Bangalore, IBM India Private Limited started its operation in 1992 and is today a leading company of information technology in India. Its products and services in India include IT services, business consulting, application management, servers and storage solutions. IBM India has now grown to an extent where it poses a stiff challenge to homegrown Software companies of India in IT global delivery and manpower attraction/retention. Relationship between Parent Company and India: -
The Indian economy was liberalized in 1991, relaxing FDI norms. IBM re-entered India in 1992 with a Tata joint-venture, named Tata Information Systems Ltd. Its business interest in India was still focused on product sales.
IBM India Private Limited is the Indian subsidiary of IBM. It was set up in September 1999.
