President’s Report …..... John Sullivan

We have a base of snow and if we were to get a large dump of snow in the next few days the season may be extended. Most people I’ve talked with are putting gas stabilizer in their tanks and putting the sled away for the season. Plows are coming off the quads as temperature forecasts are rising above freezing. I saw two sleds head down the lake for their final short ride. January was a busy month. Frank led his Wednesday/ Sunday rides. Fresh snow on trails provided great riding. The trips were well attended. On one ride scouting out conditions on the Gold Rush Trail we clocked 168 km round trip from the clubhouse. Peter and Art put together grooming crews in preparation for the BCSF’s Goldrush Trail ride and the Snowarama: two people in the Bombi, pulling a groomer, one sled pulling a drag, and the other a snowmobile acting as a tow truck for hills, deep snow and tight turns. Check out the video and pictures on Facebook (Green Lake Snowmobile Club). About 450 volunteer hours were put into grooming this year. Thanks for your time and effort. On January 24 we had our Memorial Ride to remember our former members, many of who have made the club the success it is today. A special thanks goes to John Nesbitt who read the list and shared personal memories of the past. This year we’ve had many more potluck dinners. They are a great way to bring people together, visit and catch up on the events in our lives of our friends. On January 31, 21 riders left Kamloops on the BCSF/GRST Commemorative Ride. Ten club members rode to Moose Lake to meet and guide them back to the clubhouse. A total of 60 people attended a beef dip/potluck that night. The next day they followed the Gold Rush trail to 108 Resort on the second leg of their ride to Wells. Riders were from Vancouver Island, Merritt, Kamloops, Revelstoke, Sicamous, Montreal and Toronto. A video of the trip will be shown on Global channel 309 in the next few weeks and an article will appear in ‘Snoriders’ magazine. The Club has received much positive publicity on our trail system. Thanks to Sally Watson, our TNRD rep, for the grant of $1000 for costs of grooming and the dinner. Snowarama was held on February 7th. A poker ride was held with concession and prizes. Net proceeds from this day go to the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities. Thanks to all those that helped with the check points and the concessions. A special thanks to Peter and Susan Mckie with Art and Cheryl Groves for the hours in organizing and making these two major events possible. Lastly, thanks to Susan and Jim Smith in their efforts to acquire outside funding for the club. With their efforts the club hopes to build a new garage to house the Bombi and grooming sleds. On March 7 we will have our Annual General Meeting. The purpose is to elect next years executive. Two Officer positions are available: Treasurer (held by Rita) and vice-president (held by Art ). All other Directors have agreed to remain for another term. Our club is only possible through the participation of our members. .… John ….

BCSF Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail Ride The BCSF 50th Anniversary Commemorative Ride started out with Green Lake Snowmobile Club members meeting the riders from Kamloops at Moose Lake at approximately 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 31st. After taking a few minutes to rest and warm up around a fire, the riders were guided back to the clubhouse where they had a chance to have a coffee and goodies and meet more of our members. The BCSF riders were then taken to their accommodations around the lake. They returned to the Clubhouse for happy hour, followed by a beef dip dinner and pot luck appetizers and desserts. It was an enjoyable evening for all. After dinner, with a long ride ahead the next day, riders were driven back to their accommodations. They were picked up the next morning and driven to the Wind in the Pillows B&B for a wonderful breakfast prepared by Gail Potter. On Monday morning, February 1st, all riders met at the Clubhouse for a safety tailgate and to fuel up. The ride left the Clubhouse at approximately 9:30 am with our Club leading the way through 70 Mile House and up the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail, meeting the 100 Mile House snowmobile members on the power line portion of the trail. The 100 Mile House members guided us to their Clubhouse where we enjoyed lunch before making our way to the 108 Mile Resort. Dinner was hosted at the 108 Mile Resort by BSCF. The BCSF riders left 108 Mile to continue on to Barkerville, while our members returned to Green Lake. The BCSF ride through Green Lake was a huge success and we had an opportunity to show case our wonderful trail system and our Clubhouse. Thank you to all of our members who put in so many hours grooming the trails, riding out to meet the BCSF riders and all the members who prepared the dinner and transported the riders. A special thank you to the TNRD who gave us a generous donation to help host this event.

Snowarama …. Sunday, February 7th

After days of preparation, Snowarama arrived. We thankfully had enough snow and it wasn’t too cold so it was almost a perfect day. When the riders arrived they had home made cinnamon buns, cookies, and coffee to warm them up before they hit the trails. At 10:30, 24 riders left the club house and ran the 50 km trail, many stopping to enjoy the sights along the way. Back at the clubhouse they were preparing the burgers, hot dogs and chili to have ready when the riders arrived back. Best poker hand went to Jasmine Kreschik, second to Len Barnes, third to Jon Stewart and many more received great prizes that were donated by local merchants that have supported Snowarama throughout the years. We would like to thank all the volunteers that spent hours of their time to groom and prepare the trails, drop off letters to get donations, pick up donations, take registration, cook, serve and clean up to make Snowarama the success it was. ….Cheryl...

Club Rides ...Sundays & Wednesdays - 10:30 am

Sunday & Wednesday Club Rides

Weather permitting, riders are to be at the Clubhouse by 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch as the ride may not include a stop at a local eatery. If temperature is colder than -12C, the ride will be cancelled. If in doubt phone Frank Dixon between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. for an update. Unless we get a fresh dump of snow soon, we may be done for the season !!

The planned ride for Saturday Feb 27 was changed to a ATV ride due to poor sledding conditions! There was a great turnout of 19 quads / 23 riders for the ride to Jeep Lake on a beautiful sunny day. The campfire & weenie roast was enjoyed by all. Riding the trails was pretty nice as long as you stayed on the hard packed section—just stay out of the soft stuff ! Quads don’t do so well off-trail in the 18 inches of snow that is still out there in the shad-ows. (open areas were bare and muddy, as we found out on the return trip!) …..Bob...

GLSC Historical Bits !

….Rita

2014 - 2015: - The club received a JCP Grant of $72,000.00. - This would build the septic field, an addition to the clubhouse with indoor washrooms, work on trail signage and maintenance and purchase the Bombi. - There was at least $29,000.00 worth of in-kind labour from club volunteers - excavating, painting, plumbing, roofing, etc. - Jim from All-Terrain lent the club an excavator for several days at no cost. Russ Milne completed all the plumbing at no labour cost, other volunteers put in many, many hours of free labour!

1997 - 1998: - Volunteers constructed the woodshed for $572.00 - Barry Bender donated the trees from his South Green Lake Road lot for the woodshed’s first fill-up.

1998: - In the fall of this year, a ‘witching’ event was held to determine where the well would be drilled. - The well stats are - 204 feet deep with 5 gallons per minute. - Total drilling and installation of pumps, pipes, etc. was $7505.00
