The MHEC continues its’ tradition of supporting Toys for Tots as our EXPO charity.
We agree with the Toys for Tots program's belief that children are one of our
nation's most valuable resources. We are asking exhibitors and attendees to join
us in donating to this important program.
About the Program: Toys for Tots is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Program. The
mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new,
unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and to
distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the
community in which the campaign is conducted. Their goal is to deliver, through
a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will
assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The Marines are manning the charity booth located in the lobby by exhibitor
registration throughout the day. Toys will be collected at the end of the day. Cash
donations are also accepted. Remember, any amount will make a difference to a
child in need.

16. When a newspaper is recycled, it only takes 7 days to become a new newspaper!
17. Only 11% of the earth’s surface is used to grow food
18. Recycling an aluminum can saves enough electricity to power a television for three hours
19. One wind turbine can produce enough electricity to power up to 300 homes
20. 50% of plastic we use just once and throw away
21. A glass container can go from a recycling bin to a store shelf in as few as 30 days
22. Recycling paper uses 70% less energy than to manufacture paper from new materials
23. The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle will light a 100-watt light bulb for four hours
24. Plastic accounts for around 10% of the total waste we generate
25. Recycling one ton of glass can save nine gallons of oil
26. 27,000 trees are felled each day for toilet paper.
27. A glass bottle will take 40,000 years to decompose if it’s not recycled.
28. It only takes 25 recycled plastic bottles to make a brand new fleece jacket
29. In one person’s lifetime, using a cloth bag will save over 22,000 plastic bags!
30. Every day in the U.S., we produce enough trash to equal the weight of the Empire State Building
31. More than 20,000,000 Hershey’s Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil. All that foil is
recyclable, but not many people realize it.

EXPO Flora
This year, we’re featuring a variety of plants throughout the venue. These plants have been procured from
Lamoreaux Greenhouses, a family owned and operated business. Located in Brookfield, MA, Lamoreaux
has ten greenhouses and 25 acres of land. Make sure to take a moment to read the names of the plants;
each plant we are using filters toxic agents from the air. Did you know that trees can absorb as much as 48
pounds of carbon dioxide per year? Or that one large tree can provide an oxygen supply for two people?1 All
plants will be donated following the EXPO. Please consider contributing to the “Go Green” movement by
planting trees or other flora.
Below is a list of plants we have chosen to help filter the air at this year’s EXPO2:

New England Grown Menu On a daily basis, much of the food we eat has traveled across the country or even world to get to us. The
distance the food travels on the way to our markets or grocery stores increases the emissions of the food
transport vehicles significantly. Eating locally grown food is not only more nutritious but can also help
reduce emissions. Make a difference, buy local. EXPO 2015 introduced the New England Grown Lunch
where the Sturbridge Host served a menu with ingredients grown in NE; most of the ingredients were
from right here in Massachusetts.
