The officers and board of directors handle much of the policymaking business for ALAC and the committees do a lot of the real work.

In the past we have had delays in passing on duties and files toa person undertaking a new position.

At the board meeting in Kansas City in 1983 I suggested that weproduce Officer Guidebooks containing all the necessary information fora person to be able to understand and continue with productive servicein a new position. The board authorized me to develop this project,however, business of more imperative nature postponed the project untilnow.

About a year ago during a discussion about the future projects ofALAC, Sondra Rogers suggested that perhaps a beneficial project wouldbe to have instructions and reports that could be passed from theretiring officer on to the new officer. When I told her that I had ahalf finished project just as she described, she offered to compile,copy, type and update what I had in rough draft. I immediately shipped •off what I had and am pleased to announce that the first of theseGuidebooks were handed out at the board meeting in February and thebalance have been mailed.

Contained in these Guidebooks is a list of the duties andqualifications that should be subscribed to by anyone seeking to servein the position of officer, director or committee head. Also includedis an annual calendar that contains all the important dates anddeadlines; a note and activity log; an annual report form (to besubmitted to the president prior to the annual meeting each year);a list of officers (past and present), board members and committeesand a copy of the constitution and by-laws. The officers and boardmembers' Guidebooks contain committee duties and forms fcr eachcommittee. The committees .receive a Guidebook that contains theobjectives, forms, duties, reports and general guidelines for theirspecific committee.

It is the duty of each possessor of a Guidebook to perform theduties of their position according to the outline contained in theirGuidebook and to keep it up to date and to pass it on to their successorin order that they can continue the progress and duties of the position.

I believe that these Guidebooks will not only help to define theresponsibilities of the presently filled positions but will make thetransition of position from one person to another much smoother withoutthe delay and confusion that has been experienced in the past.

I hope you are all planning to attend the Annual ALAC Event inTorrance in July. It sounds like it will be a very fun filled week.While you are there ask an officer, board member or committee head to.show you their Guidebook. Thank you Sondra for helping me make one ofmy planned projects a reality.

Dear ALAC Member:

Nominations are now being accepted for 1987 ALAC FUTURITY judges.Please remember that:

*Anyone who has judged a Futurity in 1984, 1985, or will be judging in1986, or anyone who is a licensed AKC judge of any breed, isineligible to judge a 1987 Futurity.

*Futurity judges are personally responsible for all expenses incurredin such assignment.

*Any person elected to judge a Futurity will be held accountable forsubsequent failureto fulfill the assignment by being listed asineligible for Futurity judging for a period of three years.

Names may be submitted for any one of the four regions holding theFuturity, namely Eastern, Western, Midwest North, and Southern. TheMidwest North Futurity will be held next year in conjunction with theNational Specialty in Minnesota.

Each Nominee must sign the nomination blank below indicating acceptanceand understanding of the accompanying responsibilities. The nominationblank must also bear the signatures of the person nominating and twoadditional ALAC members.

Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association show is Jack Bradshaw.—

There will be transportation available to the Long Beach Kennel Club Show.

For exhibitors interested in transportation to the Ventura show from the

hotel, a bus has been chartered at a cost of $15.00 per person, round trip.
