Kids Teaching Kids project

Although we are deep in isolation and trying our best to do

learning from home, we are determined to continue with

Kids Teaching Kids project this year, because it’s a great

one! Each year 10 students nominate to work with me on an

environmentally sustainable project that makes our local

environment better or increases awareness and educates

students and community. Those 10 students complete a

new project each year and then teach other students about

their project and learning. They do this at a fabulous event

at the Yea Wetlands each September and meet other KTK

student groups from 9 other local schools. It’s a fabulous

day of learning and child leadership.

This year our KTK team will be working with KTK co-

ordinators, Landcare and Parks Vic representatives to focus

on and construct habitat or biodiversity corridors that will

link local patches of forest together. One of those corridors

includes the fence line that the school shares with the next

door farm. It is a vital piece of work for local endangered

species and the sustainability of populations. I am so excited

about this year’s project and so are our KTK student team.

Have a great weekend!

Principals Report

Hello everyone,

Week Three of on-line learning done and we are all

hoping it ends soon. We miss the children greatly and we

just want to get back into face to face teaching!

In all seriousness, we wish you all health and safety and

thank you to those families working hard to home school

and work. It’s it not easy, but the investment in your

health, your child’s health, the school community and

local community’s health is worth it. Hang in there, do the

best you can, get what work you can get done but look

after you and your family’s physical and mental health.

Take care everyone.

Worksheets vs on-line learning

I would like to take this opportunity to address the

reasoning behind choosing to use Microsoft Teams, an on-

line learning platform compared to just giving out

worksheets once a week. As a teaching team we

acknowledge the extra work an on-line learning platform

creates and the issues with internet. It also creates a lot

of work for staff. However, we believe that what we offer

on line is in fact “teaching and learning”, interaction with

a teacher and learning that is following the term 2

curriculum. Worksheets are just that – worksheets.

Pieces of paper that cover basic level skills that have no

teaching instruction attached to it and that do not have a

challenging skill level to it, as the child has to be able to do

the work without contact with a staff member. We

believe that what we are offering will ensure your child’s

education continues in a meaningful way and will not be

affected by a long break in curriculum based learning

when they do return. Worksheets is the easier way,

however we feel it is not the best for our school, our

students and their learning.

Mother’s Day Stall

We are still offering Mother’s Day stall this year, as we

don’t want the children to miss out on this annual and fun

event. This is a good will gesture by the school and I hope

that parents can appreciate that and we have tried under

difficult circumstances to make this as easy and accessible

as possible for all.

Attached is the order form. Please read the instructions

carefully. Each student can spend no more than $10 each

(not $10 for Mum and $10 for Grandma – just $10 for all

purchases per child). Please circle the items that you

would like and perhaps a spare one in case the product
