What Increases the Risk of Cancer?

Medical studies say that 40% of all cancers are preventable.

• Consumption of alcohol and tobacco

• Being overweight

• Lesser intake of fruits and vegetables

• Lack of exercise

• Sexually transmitted viruses like HPV

• Air pollution and smoke from use of solid fuels in the house

Take a Few Precautions

• Control occupational hazards, such as exposure to toxic chemicals.

• Get vaccinated against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and hepatitis-B virus (HBV).

• Reduce exposure to sunlight and always have a sunscreen handy.

Detect It Early

• Get diagnosed early

• Get screened with tests like VIA and PAP Smear

• Palliative care is treatment to relieve, rather than cure the symptoms of cancer.

• It is often home-based and can be administered via oral medicines.

• It helps to reduce the pain caused by cancer in a patient suffering from terminal stages of the disease.

Cancer is one of the hardest diseases to deal with – both for the patient, and their loved ones. When someone you know is suffering from cancer, it isn’t always easy to offer them the right kind of support.

• Accompany them to treatment

• Look after yourself

• Hair lossChemotherapy is the most prevalent form of cancer treatment. It consists of drugs administered to the patient orally, or intravenously, to stop the growth of cancer cells.

• The treatment may be administered by a team of specialist nurses who provide home care to patients.

• The process is estimated to take a few hours, wherein the drug is pumped out of a pouch the patient must wear for that duration.

• It is not clear how many patients can benefit from this service, but it is estimated to make treatment available more widely in a comfortable setting which reduces the burden on cancer patients.
