Purpose: The TATS MOS 052-21E10 Heavy Construction Equipment Operator Course provides skill level 1 soldiers

with the skills and knowledge required to operate heavy construction equipment and assist in combatengineering missions.

Course Scope: The 052-21E10 POI encompasses all skill level 1 critical tasks selected for ADT as listed in STP 5-21E12-

SM-TG, providing technical training in:

Phase 1 consists of 27.0 hours of distributive learning on the introduction to MOS 052-21E10 Heavy

Construction Equipment Operator Course which introduces the facility, course procedures, and criteria for

successful course completion, course safety; environmental stewardship; and The Army Maintenance

Management System (TAMMS); and Accident Avoidance class.

Phase 2 consists of 108.0 hours of MOS specific training in operating a motor transport vehicle with

semiautomatic transmission and low bed trailer, a crawler tractor. a motorized scraper, a scoop loader, and

a motorized grader.

Phase Scope: Phase 2 consists of 108.0 hours of MOS specific training in operating a motor transport vehicle with

semiautomatic transmission and low bed trailer, a crawler tractor. a motorized scraper, a scoop loader, and

a motorized grader.

Course Prerequisites: Reclassification course students must meet requirements listed in DA Pam 611-2, AR 600-9,

possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license and successfully completed the 27.0 hours of

distributive learning prior to attending phase 2 ADT for this MOS.

Course Remarks: Instructor to student ratio can change from 1:4 to 1:6 with use of radios.

Phase Remarks: If the training area is a great distance from classrooms, all classroom training can be frontloaded. After classroom training is completed, move to training area for PE's.

All equipment is trained using the Round Robin method, meaning 4 groups of 3 students and 4pieces of equipment (grader, dozer, loader, and scraper) in each group. Using this method,there is no equipment training sequence required due to all equipment being taught at the sametime. This method also decreases the amount of equipment required from 12 of each piece to 4of each piece of equipment to keep a student ratio of 1:1. To show this in the equipment annexof the POI, the ratio is shown as 1:3 resulting in 4 of each piece of equipment instead of 12each.

1. Reference(s):

2. The reason for submission of this action is to document revisions to the 052-21E10 POI to reflect changes made

as a result to Distributive Learning.

3. This POI reflects the difference in hours after removing 27.0 hours of instruction for conversion to Distributive

Learning (DL). The DL phase is a prerequisite to attending ADT phase II training.

4. Identification of ITP, CAD, and POI which this course supports:

a. ITP - Dated 25 September 1998, currently under revision stage.

b. CAD - Submitted with POI.

c. POI - Dated 07 July 2004 has been revised in support of the new CAD.
