    THE GAMEThe Cleveland Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys in the season

    pener at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 4:15 p.m.

    The Browns continue their streak of opening every season at homeince 1999. Cleveland finished the preseason with a 16-10 setback

    o the Chicago Bears last Thursday, Aug. 28 to finish the preseasonwith an 0-4 mark. In 55 seasons, the Browns hold a 27-28 record on

    pening day, including a 12-15 mark at home.

    The Browns and Cowboys have faced each other 25 times in theegular season as the Browns post a 15-10-0 record, including 9-3-0

    t home. This Sundays contest will mark the third time the Brownsnd the Cowboys have opened the regular season in Cleveland. The

    Cowboys are 2-0 in openers in Cleveland as Dallas emerged with a

    1-14 win in 1967 and a 26-14 victory in 1991.

    The home opener will include all the pageantry of opening day, as the

    Browns will host a military flyover prior to the 4:15 p.m. kickoff and

    welcome the Ohio State University marching band, which will performhe National Anthem and during halftime.

    n his fourth season as head coach, Romeo Crennel will lead theCleveland Browns and look to build upon a 10-6 record from last sea-

    on. The Browns set a franchise-best seven consecutive home wins

    n 2007 and witnessed six players selected to the Pro Bowl. In ad-ition, Crennels offense developed into a highly productive unit and

    ABOUT THE COWBOYS

    In 2007, Dallas posted a 13-3 regularseason record, inlcuding a 7-1 mark onthe road. The Cowboys won the NFC

    Romeo Crennel is entering his fourth season as HeadCoach and was rewarded with a two-year contract ex-tension (thru 2011) on Jan. 29, 2008. Crennel led theBrowns to a 10-6 record in 2007, including a franchise-best seven consecutive home wins, and witnessed sixBrowns selected to the Pro Bowl.     amed head coach of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-timeead coach in franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005, aftererving as the Browns defensive coordinator in 2000, and along with Phil Sav-ge helped rebuild the football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns

    o a respectable 6-10 record in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12mark in 2006. His resume includes 38 years of coaching experience, including

    7 years in the NFL. Prior to rejoining the Browns, Crennel served as the defen-ive coordinator for New England (2001-04), helping the Patriots to three Super

    Bowl victories. From 1997-99, Crennel coached the defensive line on the NewYork Jets. He spent 12 years on the New York Giants coaching staff starting ashe special teams and defensive assistant coach in 1981. Crennel began hisrofessional coaching career in 1970 at his alma mater, Western Kentucky. Helso saw stints at Texas Tech, Mississippi and Georgia Tech before entering therofessional ranks.

    DALLAS COWBOYS - WADE PHILLIPSWade Phillips enters his second season at the helmfor the Dallas Cowboys after being named the seventhcoach in team history on February 8, 2007. In his in-augural season for Dallas, Phillips led the Cowboys toa 13-3 record and the top seed in the NFC playoffs.

    Prior to joining the Cowboys, Phillips served as thedefensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers forthree seasons (2004-2006). He also served in Atlantafor two seasons (2002-03) under the same title. Duringthe 1998-2000 seasons Phillips was the head coach in

    Buffalo, as the Bills compiled a regular season record of 29-19. He was also theBills defensive coordinator for three seasons (1995-97). Prior to joining Buffalo,

    e was the defensive coordinator in Denver for four seasons before serving asead coach for two years (1993-94). Phillipss extensive coaching career also

    ncluded stopovers at Philadelphia from 1986-88 as defensive coordinator andnebackers coach as well as defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saintsrom 1981-85. Phillips professional coaching career began in Houston in 1976as the linebackers coach under his father, longtime NFL coach Bum Phillips.Phillips began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Houston,n 1969 as a graduate assistant. He then coached at Orange (Texas) High Schoolrom 1970-72. In 1973, he joined the Oklahoma State University staff coaching

    nebackers for two seasons. Phillips was then hired to coach the defensive lineat Kansas State in 1975, his last season coaching in the college ranks.

    The Browns defense forced four Dallas turnovers but the offense was unable to find the end zothe Cowboys held on for 19-12 win over Cleveland at Texas Stadium. K Phil Dawson tied a chigh with four made field goals, but the Browns offense could only muster 202 total yards (66 pas136 rushing). The Cowboys got on the boardfirst with a 1-yard catch by Jeff Robinson to take an7-0 lead, but Dawson closed the gap to 7-6 with a pair of field goals. Cowboys K Billy Cundiff aa 30-yard field goal to extend the Dallas lead to 10-6 late in the second quarter, but Dawson aa 49-yard kick as time expired in the second quarter to pull the Browns to 10-9 at halftime. CowRB Eddie George scored on a 3-yard run to give Dallas a 17-9 advantage before Dawson narrothe margin to 17-12 early in the fourth. Dallas closed the scoring late in the game after the Brwere flagged for holding in the end zone which resulted in a safety. Browns QB Jeff Garcia comp8-of-27 passes for 71 yards with 3 INTs in the loss, while Cowboys QB Vinny Testaverde passe

    322 yards with 3 INTs.

    The Cleveland Browns named Mel Tucker defensiordinator. In 2008, Tucker received a two-year coextension and is signed through the 2010 season.er spent the last three seasons as the Browns defebacks coach under head coach Romeo Crennel.

    Tucker, a Cleveland native, inherited a young seary in 2007 as the Browns ranked 24th in the leallowing 230.1 yards passing per game. Tucker wsponsible for the development of two young safetthe secondary and tutoring youth at the corner poas well.

    Crennel was named head coach of the ClevelandBrowns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-time head coach

    n franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005 after serving as the

    Browns defensive coordinator in 2000 and along with Phil Savage helped rebuildhe football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns to a respectable 6-10ecord in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12 mark in 2006.
