InterfacefLOr: Helping build green universities from tHe floor up.

InterfaceFLOR applauds the emerging green consciousness in higher education. Programs like Recyclemania and the American Colleges & Universities Presi-dents Climate Commitment are rapidly expanding. Sustainability has evolved far beyond a hot subject – it’s become the focus for our future.

At InterfaceFLOR, we’ve been working toward greener horizons for many years. In fact, everything we do is driven by our goal of Mission Zero™: to eliminate any negative impact our company may have on the environment by the year 2020.

We’ve created smarter products and programs that leave a smaller environ-mental footprint. Our climate neutral products will also help you save green.

They reduce waste, require no glue, and are a cinch to install, replace and main-tain – all of which keeps budgets on track (and the board of regents happy). And because we know our responsibility doesn’t end with the manufacturing pro-cess, we’ll also reclaim your old carpet for recycling and other uses that ensure it won’t end up in a landfill. This program provides an easy, affordable way to ramp up your campus’s existing recycling initiatives while doing the right thing. In this catalog, you’ll find numerous ways your flooring choice can help your university continue its journey toward sustainability – and attract students at the same time.

Minimize waste. Maximize investment. keep your investment on the floor and out of the dump-ster with InterfaceFLOR’s i2 non directional styles. They install with approximately 1.5% waste compared to an average 14% broadloom waste.

Plus, all i2 styles have mergeable dye lots, which means tiles always blend with tiles of the same color, no matter when they’re purchased or installed. The result? Less attic stock, less money spent on waste, and easier replacement.

Flooring that will stand the test of time. Our carpet tile is made with a dense construction of premium nylon that is built and proven to maintain its structural integrity and resist crushing, even under heavy traffic. In addition, our backing system sets the industry standard for performance. Tiles stay on the floor without welded seams and there’s no tapping, rippling or upcurling; yet it’s easy to replace and reconfigure.

Cool Carpet for a warming planet. Third-party verified climate neutral Cool Carpet zeros out all greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions associated with the entire lifecycle of your carpet. In fact, for every 100 square yards of InterfaceFLOR modular carpet installed, 3,178 pounds of ghgs have been offset. And Cool Carpet comes standard on all InterfaceFLOR products sold in north America.

Sustainable Choice. The nSF/AnSI 140 Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard (SCAS) is the only carpet sustainability standard in north America that evaluates the environmental impact of carpet for its entire life-cycle. All InterfaceFLOR products with glasBac®Re backing meet the Platinum level of SCAS. In addition, InterfaceFLOR products with glasBac or nexStep® backing meet the gold level of SCAS.

Recyclable is now a Reality. give your campus recycling programs a boost by including carpet. Our Reentry® 2.0 program saves millions of pounds of carpet from the landfill. Patent pending tech-nology allows us to cleanly separate the fiber and backing of nearly any carpet type. Separated nylon is recycled into new nylon for our carpet tile and other uses, while separated glasBac® and similar competitive backings are recycled into new backing.

help us close the loop on carpet recycling. Start with your campus today. Call us for details.

Glue-Free Installation. give glue the boot with TacTiles®, our patented installation system. Tiles are adhered securely to one another, not the floor beneath, to form a floor that “floats” for greater flexibility, easier replacement and long-term performance. The TacTiles system has virtually no VOCs and leaves no mess, not to mention having an environmental footprint that is over 90% lower than that of traditional glue adhesives.

Crank up CaMpuS rECyCLIng. CLoSE ThE Loop on CarpET. talk about a lesson that sticks: Knowing your school won’t add to the 5 billion pounds of carpet that end up in landfills every year. our groundbreaking Reentry® 2.0 recycling and reclamation program makes that possible by moving us ever closer to closing the carpet recycling loop, converting fiber to fiber and backing to backing.

Page 15: 2009 InterfaceFLOR catalog, higher education

Recycle from the Floor up. Recyclemania has taken college campuses across the country by storm – or, rather, by bin. With InterfaceFLOR, you can now add carpet to the list.

Since 1994, Reentry® has kept more than 175 million pounds of carpet from landfills. Our Reentry 2.0 process now gives us the ability to cleanly separate the carpet face from the backing of nearly any carpet type. Separated type 6 and 6,6 nylon are “reinyarnated” to create a clean stream of post-consumer raw materials for us to use in making new carpet tile and to share with other industries. Separated glasBac® and similar competitive backings are also recycled into new glasBacRe post-consumer content carpet tile backing.

The result at InterfaceFLOR is Convert™ – a new platform for products designed and manufactured with post-con-sumer content yarn, which marks a design breakthrough toward true sustainability.

The entire Reentry 2.0 process requires less energy than other recycling processes, diverts waste from landfills and reduces our dependence on virgin raw materials. Or, in other words, it provides quite an admirable post-life for all that old broadloom in the dorms.

it’s ok to use this calculator in class. This chart converts feet into square yards. To figure roughly how much InterfaceFLor carpet tile you need, measure the length and width of the area to be car-peted, and find the square yardage in the chart at the right. Then see the chart below to calculate the number of boxes you’ll need. we recommend adding 4% extra for non-i2™ styles. please call 1.877.696.TILE to confirm the exact amount of carpet you need for your space, as well as your shipping charges.

Through our InterCircle Sample Return program, sample materials stay out of the landfill and are re-used as samples until it is time to recycle them into new carpet. By reducing sample production material and diverting old materials from the landfill, we can reduce our overall environmental footprint.

To date, more than 600 members have joined the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, pledging to take action on reducing greenhouse gases (ghgs) throughout their respective campuses.

In addition to reducing ghgs in our operations, our third-party verified climate neutral Cool Carpet™ program zeros out ghg emissions from the entire lifecycle of our products.
